Russia has declared the country’s main group defending LGBTIQ+  rights a ‘foreign agent’, as part of a continuing crackdown on media outlets and rights groups.

The LGBT-set was established in 2006 and operates in several regions, was entered yesterday in the justice ministry’s register of foreign agents, which already includes journalists, lawyers and activists.

It is known the attacks on people from the community are frequent in Russia, with the rights group last month accusing authorities of jailing and torturing members in secret prisons.
