A gastroenteritis outbreak at Inskip point could lead to the closure of the popular campsite unless effectively contained soon.

Authorities in the region have received reports of more than a dozen campers being struck ill with gastronomical distress since the weekend, which the Sunshine Coast hospital confirmed as cases of norovirus.

Public Health Physician Dr Rob McLure believes the key to fighting the outbreak  is proper health education for campsite visitors, encouraging them to bring fresh water and cleaning supplies.

Inskip point has seen over 80 cases of norovirus since December last year, leading Dr McLure to urge campsites to consider changing design layouts to reduce contact between campers.
