Queensland's public service will fail to come close to reaching its 2022 target of 8 per cent of its workforce made up of people living with a disability.

In light of the failure, the government is doing an audit across the public service to reclassify any employers who might have been missed from the official disability count.

A disability advocate has said that the target was missed by so much, the government needs a “review” and a “quota conversation.”

Since June 2015 the total number of people with a disability working in the public sector increased by only 172 and even declined in the following years.

The state government will need to hire 14,750 more people with a disability to meet next year’s goal.
