Queensland hospitality businesses are concerned restrictions for those unvaccinated against covid-19 from next month will have serious repercussions on their busiest trade time of the year and further alienate many of their much-needed customers.

Venues are concerned they will need extra staff to police vaccination checks, with complications arising for businesses with employees who are under 16 and not yet eligible to get vaccinated.

Some businesses have said they are looking to double security at venues by the announced December date, but there is a “massive shortage” of staff, with Sydney alone being short almost 10,000 security guards.

Properly checking vaccine status continues to be of growing concern for businesses, especially in hospitality, as there are plenty of unclear guidelines as to how to adequately transition into the new procedure in December and how to properly implement it.
