10 people were found dead at the bottom of a refugee boat, along with 99 survivors rescued from Libyan waters late on Wednesday.

Doctors Without Borders reported a rescue ship found the wooden boat after responding to a distress call off the Libyan Coast.

The team aboard the ship carried out three similar rescues in the previous 24 hours, with a total of 186 survivors on board.

More than fifty nine thousand asylum seekers have reached neighbouring Italian shores this year, fleeing human rights abuses in Libya, Iraq and Syria.
