An investigation is underway after a Brisbane tidal creek turned blue due to the release of an unknown contaminant.

The creek located behind an Industrial Area in Eagle farm was reported blue on Saturday, after a local resident noticed the unnatural colour and several dead fish.

Department of Environment and Science Director of Compliance Kate Herbert says it is currently unknown whether or not the contaminant was released deliberately, however fish and water samples taken from the site will help the department understand what the contaminant was and the extent of the environmental damage.
