Indian security forces have killed thirteen civilians in the North-Eastern state of Nagaland.

Officials say the security forces opened fire on a truck containing mine workers after mistaking them for rebel militant groups, killing at least six people.

Seven more people were killed in a conflict with authorities that ensued after civilians marched on the security camp in protest of those deaths.

Naga political and rebel groups have long rejected Indian rule in the state but have in recent years agreed to a ceasefire amidst ongoing peace talks, which some politicians fear could be jeopardised by the killings.
