The Queensland state government has postponed the start of the school year.

For primary and secondary school students, bar those in year 11 and 12, the first day of school has shifted from the 24th of January to the 7th of February while year 11 and 12 students start remote learning earlier, on January 31.

The Queensland Minister for education, Grace Grace, explained the reason for the delay was to avoid beginning the school year at the same time as the forecast peak in Omnicron coronavirus infections.
