Australian farmers are facing an unexpected Avocado surplus, as the current avocado oversupply has farmers begging consumers to eat more to reduce waste. A new report by agribusiness bank Rabobank says Australian growers would produce 22 avocados per Australian this year. Overall, Australia is on target to produce 124,000 tonnes of avocados, a 30,000 tonne increase. A complete ‘AVO-lanch” of the superfood. Avocado grower and Avocados Australia chairman Jim Kochi, from Atherton in Far North Queensland, says returns to growers were the lowest they had been in about 20 years. 4ZZZ journalist Stephanie Felesina spoke with Mr Kochi about the smashing revelations.
