- Since releasing her debut track on Body Promise’s Fantastic Effects compilation two years ago, Andy Garvey has been busy. A multifaceted individual, Garvey works in a variety of capacities: from music producer, DJ, radio host on FBi and Triple J, as Pure Space label-head AND co-founder of the agency Nectar. She has just released her latest of two EPs for Lobster Theremin. The first EP Eternal Recurrence was full of dancefloor tracks. Complex Clarity continues to develop upon this, growing her sound while remaining danceable.

Red Star starts with shuffling hi-hats and an ominous, descending bassline, until an acid line bubbles to the surface. This acid line takes the fore as the song progresses. There is more of a bass/dub feel on this one.

Mind Game ups the tempo a little bit, having more of a bouncy, electro feel. The kick is syncopated (as opposed to four-on-the-floor), and the 808 claps and clicks. sub.conscious is another electro inflected dance track, hi-hats hit, shifting around a thuddy kick. It's quite dreamy with its pad washes, arpeggiated synth line and electronic hits. 8808808.08 has some properly serious bounce, an ambient intro giving way to a shuffling 808 again, with a pushing acid lining adding to the momentum. In the titular Complex Clarity the kick is married to digital drum tones and echoey bleeps until the snare hits, when the melody follows shortly. A one note acid bass gurgle away before going into full gear at around the three-minute mark.

Complex Clarity (the EP as a whole), is Garvey offering a more contemplative sound, also proving to be her most experimental release to date. It's still designed for the dancefloor though, with acid lines and 808 drums matched to some interesting moods. Perhaps something a little more reserved is just right for the times. For the next couple of months you're going to be doing most of your dancing in the living room and if you knock over the TV, well, it's going to be hard to get another one; Andy Garvey is clearly thinking of you.
