- Aussie collective Tralala Blip have released their new album Eat My Codes If Your Light Falls on Room40. From the regional New South Wales town of Lismore, the group comprises differently-abled artists, initially being formed by support worker Randolf Reimann as a means “to provide a fertile environment in which intellectually and physically handicapped people would have access to new technologies that would enable more creative possibilities for self-expression.”

Eat My Codes If Your Light Falls is their first full length album in five years since the excellent Aussie Dream LP. This more synth-pop release was followed up with Oceans Of Life, which had a more dancey/acid house feel. Eat My Codes touches on these styles in some ways, but it’s quite a development from their previous releases.  Pub Talk is a beautiful track with great use of samples, Casio drums spluttering and vocal snippets colliding. There are songs with a more synth feel like Voodoo Pins and Facing Monsters, with its great vocal harmonies and arpeggiated synth. Dear Formless is a personal favourite, consisting of a sequenced groove that keeps the momentum going. It has an almost hip-hop swing about it - right up my alley. The Canyon is a suitable album closer, starting with a lush, arppegiated synth part. The songs parts eventually dissipate, in the end giving way to a field recording.

You can hear why Tralala Blip are celebrated on the international stage by the likes of Unsound – their music is far removed from the faceless, by-the-numbers electronic music that is ubiquitous.
