Vanguard Burlesque, presented by Joel Devereux and Lillian Lace, does it again! From mermaids to school teachers to beautiful main act Duchess deBerry from NZ, it goes to show Brisbane Burlesque makes for the hottest outing you can think of!
The 19th of January was a hot Friday night at The Wickham. It was an intimate space that the packed-out audience could enjoy Australian Burlesque performers of all shapes and sizes present spectacular acts. The sold-out show featured Vollie LaVont as MC and LaVont definitely didn’t let the audience leave without a stunning Drag Queen performance toward the end of the show.
With acts from Jacqueline Furey, Jade Nuvoux, Evie Libertine, Marilyn Mocktail, Summer Dragonfly and Natasha St. James there was a variety of costumes, colours and highly creative performances that utilised props in surprising ways.
As DeBerry was part of the way through her act, she playfully realised there was indeed no tassels hanging off her chest, therefore utilised the tassels hanging off her earrings instead. It was a delightful reveal and wonderful way to utilise props and all-in-all made for an exciting performance. Another example included mermaid-inspired act Furey using what appeared to be a fishline string to undo her mermaid bottom half.
The range of costumes and diversity of performances was aplenty. Further creative use of props included a particular balloon act by Libertine that was made all the more fun as she allowed a member of the audience to pop each balloon covering her body.
The show was highly entertaining and featured many fabulous acts, it was a delight to enjoy a Brisbane-based Burlesque show and the audience was loving it. It is an absolute joy to celebrate these talented performers and deBerry the ‘Antipodean Temptress’ made for a stunning main act.
One particular fascinating moment of the night, although there were many, was when Natasha St. James leaped in the air and landed in splits, it made for a phenomenal performance. Vanguard Burlesque is far from forgettable and only leaves you hungry for more.
