The Music of James Bond was a magnificent night of music that featured songs from all the classic James Bond films and performed at the Concert Hall, QPAC. On the 18th of October this year, QPAC presented a GWB Entertainment and Good Egg Creative production that takes an in-depth look at the impressive soundtrack for the James Bond films over the years. The Music of James Bond tracks the full range of dramatic spy-themed songs in a chronological fashion.
On the night of the performance, Luke Kennedy filled in for Michael Falzon, who experienced ill health at the time. Whilst this was unfortunate news that Michael Falzon was unable to perform on the night, Luke Kennedy was more than capable of entertaining the crowd on this musical showcase of Bond classics, and complementing the vocal prowess of Kate Ceberano. Whilst it could be said that Kennedy supported Ceberano in duet and never missed a beat, when the time came around for his own solo performance, this was something quite different altogether.
After the interval, and nearing towards the end of the performance Luke Kennedy stepped out to reveal what was meant to be his guest performance on that night, which was a cover of Writing’s on the Wall by Sam Smith. This was absolutely fantastic, and might I add a welcome surprise after backing the strong powerhouse vocals of Ceberano that night, for Kennedy to have his own moment. It was a delightful evening that featured many great tracks including Diamonds are Forever, License to Kill, Skyfall, Goldfinger, James Bond Theme and even an original song by Ceberano titled Untouchable.
Ceberano is a powerhouse vocalist, she is able to raise the roof with her vocal range. She is an impressive performer that throws herself into the music and feels each note of the song she is singing whilst she grooves to the music. The orchestra backing the vocals were on point alongside the lead vocalists. Featured on the night there was even a snippet of the Mission Impossible Theme, just to mix it up a bit.
It’s hard not to sit back and enjoy the nostalgic sounds of Kennedy’s From Russia With Love, and Ceberano’s All Time High, and many more. Ceberano’s sparkly dresses throughout the night and Kennedy’s suit and bowtie make for a classy evening of fun, and one you simply won’t forget. All bases are covered with this musical performance that any Bond fan would not be disappointed by. Not to mention Ceberano’s powerhouse rendition of Skyfall to top off the night. Come and enjoy a range of Bond classics from the years, that will make you think of the good old days.
