Bushfire victims enlist grant writers for relief fund application help

Almost a year on from the summer bushfires of 2019-20, some community residents are having to hire professional grant writers or rely on volunteers to complete complex grant applications.

The New South Wales Government is overseeing the distribution of numerous state and federally-funded grants for affected towns as some residents still live in tents and caravans.

Indonesians head to election polls as experts warn of Coronavirus cluster risk

Indonesians have begun to vote in regional elections as experts warn of potential Coronavirus spread across the country.

Almost 300,000 polling stations have been set up in 24 districts and 37 cities with over 100 million people eligible to vote in what is the world's third-biggest democracy.

However, the election commences as Indonesia struggles to contain South-East Asia's worst Coronavirus outbreak totalling more than 586,000 infections and 18,000 deaths.

Mount Everest now officially taller after China and Nepal agree on new height

China and Nepal have come to an agreement on the height of Mount Everest in an official announcement, ending a longtime measurement discrepancy between the two nations.

The world's highest peak now measures 8,848.86 metres, slightly more than Nepal's and China's measurements and 86cm taller than the previously most accepted height.

The height of the summit which borders both China and Nepal was agreed on after surveyors from Nepal climbed the peak in 2019, and a team from China did so in 2020.

With a molasses-rich delivery akin to <strong>RVG</strong>’s <strong>Rommy Vager</strong>, <strong>Curtis Wakeling</strong> sings that “[he] had a dream again/together, forever on tour again. No tidal wave, no pool of sweat/just all of us again.”&nbsp;</span></span></p>

Young Marble Giants: Colossal Youth: 40th Anniversary Special Edition Reissue

<p><span><span>- One of the biggest challenges in putting this review together was choosing the song to be aired with the broadcast version. Despite its reputation as an austere post-punk album, this reissue of <em>Colossal Youth</em>, the classic first and only album to be released by Welsh band <strong>Young Marble Giants</strong>, is chock full of great tunes. </span></span></p>

Britain will introduce first COVID-19 vaccine next week

Britain will become the first Western country to introduce a COVID-19 vaccine to the public this week.

England’s National Health Service CEO Sir Simon Stevens said the department’s successful history of vaccinations gives him confidence to label this vaccine as a turning point in the battle against coronavirus.

 

800 Ethiopian refugees fleeing Sudan every day, says UN

According to the United Nations, the number of Ethiopian refugees arriving into Sudan has increased from about 400 a day to more than 800. 

A new round of fighting has been reported between the Ethiopian army and rebel forces loyal to the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) in the area of Shire, west of the regional capital, Mekelle.

More than a month of fighting is believed to have killed thousands of people, displaced more than one million and driven some 47,000 others into Sudan.
