China commits to reaching net-zero emissions, vows to reduce footprint to zero by 2060
China has become the latest nation to commit to becoming carbon neutral, vowing to reduce their footprint to zero by 2060.
President Xi Jinping addressed the UN assembly on Wednesday calling for a green recovery of the world economy in the post-COVID era.
China is now one of Thirty countries around the world that have now pledged to go carbon neutral in order to combat the effects of climate change.
Google Maps asked to stop users ‘walking’ on Uluru via street view
Parks Australia has asked Google to prevent users from being able to walk on top of Uluru via the use of its street view function.
Climbing and walking on top of Uluru has been banned in accordance with the wishes of Anangu, Uluru's traditional owners, however street view still allows users to do so virtually and offers 360-degree views once at the top of the summit.
Google Australia told the ABC that it was in the process of having the images removed but that these changes can take up to 24 hours to come into effect.
380 whales dead in Tasmania mass stranding, worst in Australia’s history
Three hundred and eighty pilot whales have died after more than four hundred and fifty became stranded on Tasmania’s West Coast earlier this week.
Rescue crews managed to successfully save 50 whales but 30 are still beached with efforts being concentrated on whales assessed as having the best chance of survival.
The event is now the largest of its kind in Australia's recorded history.
UQ researchers suggest consumption of jellyfish as sustainable alternative
Researchers at the University of Queensland suggest that people turn to eating jellyfish as a sustainable and healthy alternative.
The researchers found 92 endangered and 11 critically endangered species of seafood were caught around the world with some served up as "fish", "flake" or "cod".
Marine biologist Lisa-ann Gershwin says jellyfish have long been considered a luxury in China, Japan and Korea, and offer considerable nutritional value being both a solid source of protein and fat-free.
Queensland Health IT error leaves hospitals short on supplies
Doctors in Queensland hospitals have been left with no supplies after the bungled rollout of an online ordering system.
An investigation by the Auditor-General found the software used to order and pay for essential medical supplies had significant issues and staff did not know how to use it.
The report stated that Queensland Health had underestimated the system’s failures since it was switched in August 2019 and were unaware of the compounding impact they would have on patient care.

Australian bomb specialist killed in Solomon Islands explosion
An Australia bomb specificalist has been killed in the Solomon Islands after a blast occurred in the Capital of Honiara.
The Australian man was working in the country to identify unexploded World War II bomb sites for specialist police teams.
Investigators are still trying to determine why explosives were present in the area.
Federal push to deregister Clive Palmer’s Party not followed through by QLD
The Australian Electoral Commission have issued a notice of intention to deregister Clime Palmer’s United Australia Party.
While Federal authorities said there is a possibility to deregister the party, Queensland will not follow this up.
The Electoral Commission Queensland said there is currently no evidence to initiate this process six weeks out from the State’s Poll on October 31.

Queensland Firebirds’ coach Rosalee Jenkee has been under scrutiny after failing to play the Suncorp Super Netball’s only Indigenous player during the league’s Indigenous round.
24-year-old Jemma Mi Mi has been used heavily to promote the Indigneous round and raise cultural awareness, but didn’t take the court in their win against the Vixens.
Brisbane mother avoids attempted murder charges
A Brisbane woman's attempted murder charge has been downgraded to a domestic violence offence after the first day of a Supreme Court trial.
The 39-year-old woman was originally charged with attempted murder, after stabbing her daughter with a kitchen knife in February of 2019.
Justice Glenn Martin made the decision to downgrade charges after hearing the woman’s daughter acted violently during the fight, calling the woman’s intent to injure “momentary”.
