Schools embracing esports ahead of championships
A Queensland Catholic college is the latest high school to get serious about mentoring its students for a future in esports, likening the opportunity to that of a career in traditional sports like football or cricket.
Chisholm Catholic College, south of Brisbane, saw the potential in getting its students involved and started an esports program.
Additionally, students are also expected to participate in weekly gym sessions, which Principal Mr Mendez-Cortes described as a crucial requirement for any online gamer.
Gold Coast Family’s 6 Month Halloween Home Transformation Complete
A Gold Coast family have spent 6 months transforming their Pacific Pines home into an iconic horror house inspired by Stephen King's 'IT'.
The home will display dark, decrepit weatherboarding, a large spider outside and a multitude of other spooky decorations.
The family has stated that they noticed a considerably higher number of trick or treaters out in the street last year, after they had transformed their home with cobwebs and a smoke machine.
Scholarship program to get more qualified teachers into early education
One of Australia’s major early education providers has announced a flagship scholarship program to get more qualified teachers into the sector.
G8 is partnering with major universities, including QUT, to offer $15,000 study bonuses and paid study time to its current diploma-qualified staff to complete a bachelor’s degree.
G8’s Chief Executive Gary Caroll says that the company is aiming to double its number of qualified early childhood teachers.
G8’s staff have welcomed the initiative.

Following the 2017 Bourke Street attack, Victoria Police have introduced a new 'hostile vehicle policy', which has given police the authority to take action to prevent serious death or injuries, if faced with a criminal in a hostile vehicle.
Officers are now given explicit guidelines which include the tactical option to use roadblocks and ram offending vehicles.
UK to phase out coal by 2025
The United Kingdom has adopted ambitious emissions reduction targets, making it the first major economy in the world aiming to end its contribution to global warming by 2050.
The country is preparing to phase out its last coal-fired power plants by 2025 to reduce carbon emissions.
The UK's National Grid, which supplies electricity to England, Scotland and Wales, says coal is "quickly becoming an irrelevance" in Britain.

Voting polls closed in Argentina late last week, in what has turned out to be a mostly peaceful election despite brewing frustrations and eroding support for the current conservative government.

Gold Coast accused of having no climate change strategy
The Gold Coast has been identified as a climate change hotspot with a projected sea level rise of 80 centimetres by 2100.
The City of Gold Coast's climate change strategy expired in 2014 and has not been revised since.
Data shows 64,000 Gold Coast properties will become 'uninsurable' within the next century due to rising risks of riverine flooding and coastal inundation.
