Dutch Railway Company to Pay Compensation for Holocaust Victims

The Dutch national railway company will pay tens of millions of Euros of compensation for Jews transported to Nazi death camps during World War II.

The payment by NS will go to the survivors who were taken to the camps, plus the relatives of those who died.

It is estimated that several thousand people are eligible for the allowance, including and estimated 500 survivors.

Bodies of Drowned Father and Daughter Have Been Returned to El Salvador

The bodies of a father and daughter who drowned in the Rio Grande while fleeing to the US have been returned to their home of El Salvador. 

26 year-old, Óscar Martínez and his 23 month-old daughter Valeria were transported home, accompanied by Martínez’s wife, who was on the riverbank as her husband and daughter were swept away. 

A US humanitarian worker who runs a shelter in Mexico, where the migrants died, says Donald Trump is responsible for the chaos at the US-Mexico border, and consequently, innocent migrants are dying. 

 

PM Willing to Consider Iran Military Action

Prime Minister, Scott Morrison has said he will seriously consider any requests from Trump to take part in military action against Iran. 

Mike Pompeo, The US Secretary of State, has asked Australia to harden its position on Iran and join a new global coalition against the country.

Tensions are rising between the two, following the US’ decision to pull out of their nuclear deal in May last year, and were further heightened by Iran shooting down a US surveillance drone last week.

Tourism Opportunity on Wangetti Trail

The Minister for Tourism Industry Development, Kate Jones, is looking for ecotourism operators to develop eco-accommodation on the Wangetti Trail in Far North Queensland.

Ms Jones says that it is necessary to protect the natural and cultural assets of the Wangetti Trail and they should be presented for the enjoyment of current and future generations.

At least 36 million dollars of the State Budget have been committed to build the trail.

39 Dead in Congo Mine Collapse

An accident at Glencore mine in Congo has killed at least 39 illegal miners.

The copper and cobalt mine in Southeast Congo has collapsed, however production has not been affected. 

 Richard Muyej, the governor of Democratic Republic of Congo's Lualaba province says the accident was caused by clandestine artisanal diggers, which caused the old terraces to give way. 

Trump Blocked from Adding New Question to Census

The US Supreme Court has blocked Trump from adding a new citizenship question to the 2020 census.

The question “Is this person a citizen of the United States?” generates concern that it is politically motivated and meant to suppress minorities and immigrants.

Democrats and civil rights groups claim the question is about reducing the number of people of colour that are being counted in the census.
