Second Queensland Goanna attack this month

Attacks by an aggressive goanna have landed a man and the paramedic who came to help him in a Queensland hospital.

This marks the second goanna attack in the state's south-east in the past three weeks, after what has been described as a savage goanna attacked and eight-year old girl while she walked through a South Stradbroke Island campground.

In the most recent incident, the man suffered deep cuts and scratches to his leg after he was attacked on his property.

A growing number of Chinese companies have been delisted from the ASX

A record six Chinese companies were delisted from the Australian Securities Exchange last year, with controversial health firm Traditional Therapy Clinics the latest to be removed.

The delistings in 2018 came in the same year that no new Chinese companies were listed on the ASX and a whole lot more that applied to be listed were rejected.

Most of the delistings have been as a result of  poor reporting and other governance issues.

Australian start-ups fear government loses interest in the tech industry

With a federal election on the horizon, there are fears among Australian start-ups that the tech industry is "going backwards" politically.

German Economy dodges recession

New data has revealed that Germany's economy narrowly avoided falling into recession during the final three months of last year.

Europe's largest economy registered zero growth during the fourth quarter of 2018, according to the country's Federal Statistics Office.

Reasons for slower growth last year include a slowdown in the global economy and a weaker car sector, with German consumers less willing to buy new cars amid confusion over new emission standards.

NASA plans to go to the moon

NASA is accelerating plans to return Americans to the Moon, and this time, the US space agency says it will be there to stay.

Jim Bridenstine, NASA's administrator, told reporters that the agency plans to speed up plans backed by President Donald Trump to return to the moon, by taking bids from private companies.

NASA plans to build a small space station, dubbed Gateway, in the Moon's orbit by 2026. It will serve as a way-station for trips to and from the lunar surface, but will not be permanently crewed like the International Space Station.

Story Bridge is set to be repainted

The Story Bridge will be repainted, marking this as the first repaint since the 79-year-old bridge first opened.

Brisbane City Council will call for tenders for the city’s biggest paint jobs, covering the kilometre-long bridge which spans over the Brisbane river.

Its predicted that painting the bridge will take approximately five years to complete, and work will commence after Riverfire.

Bust water main on Sandgate road to cause delays

A burst water main at Sandgate road has caused delays for motorists, with lanes closed.

A spokesman for the Queensland Police Services says contraflow has been implemented on the road which would cause a traffic headache for city-bound motorists.

Meanwhile, Queensland Urban Utilities spokeswoman, Michelle Cull, says work would continue throughout the morning.

Indigenous Australians asked to develop their own Closing the Gap targets

Indigenous Australians will be asked to develop their own Closing the Gap targets as part of a refresh announcement made by Prime MInister Scott Morrison.

Just two of the seven Closing the Gap targets are on track to met, more than a decade after the original report.

Speaking about the failure of the original targets, Scott Morrison says “while it was guided by the best of intentions, the process has reflected something of what I believe is the hubris of this place - it did not truly seek to partner with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.”

Murray-Darling Basin future is bleak

The future outlook for the Murray-Darling Basin environment is extremely challenging and their will be no scope for environmental flows for the remainder of 2019 unless it rains, according to the Murray-Darling Basin Authority.

The Authority has cautioned there will focus on providing drought refuges and avoiding irreversible loss of species.
