Encrypted Messages to be Decrypted
The government has struck a deal with Labor, which will allow police and spy agencies to access encrypted messages on apps such as Wickr and Whatsapp.
Attorney-General Christian Porter called the deal a massive win, saying terrorism and child sex offences are being facilitated by criminal groups communicating on encrypted apps.
He added law enforcement and ASIO had informed him that the legislation was not necessary to give them an edge, but a fighting chance.
International Space Station's Rogue Robot
The International Space Station’s artificial intelligence ‘companion’ CIMON was switched off shortly after it was activated as it started giving attitude.
CIMON, standing for Crew Interactive MObile companioN, was built to be a friend and a tool to help, however, after a short while of being switched on it was clear to see CIMON had other plans, after refusing to turn off a song when commanded to.
The robot is now back in its box, powered down, with no further interactive sessions planned for the immediate future.
Concerns over Wynnum Road Upgrade
An upgrade for Wynnum road from four lanes to six lanes between the Story Bridge and Canning Bridge is scheduled to be finished in 2020.
Although the upgrade is designed to ease congestion, there have been concerns raised over the Canning Bridge section of the road, where motorists will be reduced back to four lanes and traffic could build.

NSW to Trial “Morning and Afternoon” Schools
Separate morning and afternoon schools could soon be trialled in NSW to reduce traffic peaks and address the enrolment boom, said State Education Minister Rob Stokes.
Mr Stokes said the design of the schooling system is in dire need of reform to cater to the new generation, with children beginning their education today set to end their working lives at the beginning of the 22nd century.

Sororities and Fraternities take Harvard to Court
Several sororities and fraternities have filed lawsuits against Harvard University, saying their crackdown on single-sex clubs has violated anti-discrimination laws and the US constitution.
The university’s policy was made in an an effort to combat gender discrimination and prevents members of single-sex organisations from receiving certain scholarships and taking leadership positions.
Sydney Lecturer Sacked Over Swastikas
The University of Sydney has moved to sack lecturer Tim Anderson, alleging serious misconduct, after he showed students images of a Nazi swastika imposed over the flag of Israel.
Dr Anderson has drawn widespread criticism following several visits to Syria and North Korea, expressing support for their dictatorial regimes, and condemning western Imperialism and the US.
Dr Anderson has dismissed the complaints against him as petty and absurd, saying he will appeal the university’s decision and accused them of “political censorship”.

Animal experts continue to warn of the parallel between acute climatic events and snake behaviours after a North Queensland man was bitten multiple times by a non-venomous tree snake that ended up in his bed.
Mackay based snake catcher Brett Modra said the occurrence was only one of many recent erratic snake behaviours witnessed in Australia, with the likelihood of a snake coming into a dwelling to escape the heat, higher than it used to be.
Questions Being Raised Over Use of Qantas Points
Qantas club memberships have been given out to five Brisbane Councillors, in their roles as committee chairmen, for travelling on business.
Lord Mayor Graham Quirk has admitted he does not know if the memberships are used for personal use, but says they are provided as a “part of the package” to ensure travels taken in their role are supported.
These memberships include access to private lounges and corporate memberships are available to purchase for up to one or two years.
