Cole Toone is a pop-rock icon from Brisbane-ish, known for combining blunt cynicism in his lyrics with infectiously hummable pop melodies. Think Liam Lynch, Adam Green, a little Jeffrey Lewis. The new EP "Cole Toone is Not Okay" features six songs around the minute-long mark, written in moments of incredible personal distress and turmoil. Fast tempos, chaotic drum machines with 16th note hi-hats, and pessimistic, wordy lyrics that circle around on themselves narratively are the glue that holds this release together, making for the perfect, chaotic seven and a half minutes.
