Stem cells used to grow eye lenses in lab
Scientists at Western Sydney University have used stem cells to create human eye lens cells, and then grow them into eye lenses.
New research could mean some of the 100 children born with cataracts in Australia each year would not have the same experience as other children.
It is still early days for the treatment and it would need to be further developed and tested before it could be used in humans.
Germans recommend Queensland Rail overhaul
German public transport experts have recommended an overhaul of southeast Queensland’s transport system after a culture of mistrust was discovered between Queensland Rail and Translink.
The man that was given the task 13 months ago to completely change Queensland Rail has already provided the Queensland Government with recommendations in a stage one report.
South Brisbane road closures
A major Brisbane road will partially close for up to 3 months so that a $28 million upgrade can be completed.
Green Camp Road between Manly and Rickertt roads at Wakerley and Ransome is used by 30,000 vehicles a day and has been identified as a priority project by the Brisbane City Council in an effort to reduce congestion, improve safety and traffic efficiency.
The $28 million project is jointly funded by the council and Australian government and is expected to be finished by mid-2019.
LNP wins SA election
The Liberal National Party have won the South Australian election claiming the 24 seats required for victory.
The election has ended the ALP’s 16 year rule in South Australia with the Labor Leader Jay Weatherill announcing he will step down after the defeat.
The new Premier Steven Marshall was sworn in this morning alongside MPs Vickie Chapman who will be Deputy Premier and MP Rob Lucas who will become treasurer.
18-year-old student death in Nottingham
Prosecutors in Rome have opened an investigation into the death of an 18-year-old student in Nottingham.
Investigators said they were keeping an "open mind" about whether the attack on Miss Moustafa, an engineering student at Nottingham College was racially motivated.
A post-mortem examination into Miss Moustafa's death was inconclusive.
UN will support predatory process for Zimbabwe's election
The United Nations has announced they will support the preparatory process ahead of Zimbabwe’s election in July.
The election is the first for President Emmerson Mnangagwa assumed office after the military removed Robert Mugabe who had been in charge for 37 years.
It is estimated 5.4 million Zimbabweans have engaged in Biometric Voter Registration since the process started in October.

Dorset ensemble forms 'first ensemble of disabled musicians'
An orchestra in Dorset, England has formed what is thought to be the world’s first ensemble of disabled musicians.
The Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra is led by disabled conductor James Rose, who has cerebral palsy,
and conducts the group using a specially-designed baton attached to his glasses.
The musician’s disabilities include blindness, autism and partial deafness. Mr Rose says he would like the group to challenge the industry’s perception of musicians.

National Geographic apologises to Indigenous Australians
US magazine, National Geographic, has apologised for decades of racist coverage on Aboriginal Australians.
The magazine had previously featured images of Indigenous Australians with captions reading “South Australian Blackfellows: These savages rank lowest in intelligence of all human beings." Editor Susan Goldberg said that the captions had left her “speechless”.
