Queenslanders are set to be hit with a day of heavy rain
The wet weather in Brisbane is expected to continue throughout the day and further into the week. Experts are warning locals as flood risks continue throughout the region.
A severe weather warning has also been given to the Granite Belt, Central Highlands and Darling Downs including possible hail and flash flooding.
Authorities are warning Queenslanders to stay safe around flood waters.
Schoolies week continues in Northern NSW
Byron Bay schoolies has kicked off with hundreds of Victorian school leavers flocking to the area.
Surf Life saving New South Wales far north coast duty officer Jimmy Keough is warning party-goers to stay safe in the water.
Mr Keough says, “our main message is to avoid remote beaches and look after your mates.”
New South Wales school leavers are expected to start arriving by Friday.
International borders remain closed
The next stage of international borders reopening has been put on hold as Omicron cases continue to rise.
Currently, Australia has 19 confirmed cases of the Covid variant.
Around 200,000 students and workers were set to begin arriving from Wednesday, however the federal government has deferred the planned reopening of the international border until at least December 15.
In a statement released last night, the federal government confirmed travellers from Japan and South Korea would also not be permitted into the country until December 15.
South African President calling to keep borders open
President Ramaphosa is asking for international borders to be reopened amidst the Omicron crisis.
South Africa’s president says he is “deeply disappointed” and describes the border closures as “unjustified”.
The World Health Organisation has warned against introducing harsh travel closures stating a “risk-based and scientific approach” should be taken.

Largest Ever Native Title Claim Recognized in Landmark Decision
Celebrations have began as the largest ever native title claim determination recognised the Kuuku Ya'u and U’utaalnganu people’s claim to 210,000 hectares of land in Cape York.
Kuuku Ya’u elder Father Brian Claudie says the claim is "special for this generation, it’s very important for the future children”.
Uutaalnganu Traditional Owner and Mayor for Lockhart River Aboriginal Shire Council Wayne Butcher says the determination was justice for his people, saying “we feel more at home now.
Wet Weather Predicted For Queenslanders
Heavy rainfall is predicted for the week as humidity sets in for Queenslanders during the weekend.
After heavy rainfall on Friday followed by a sunny weekend, experts are predicting more wild weather, with Bureau of Meteorology meteorologist Felmi Hanniffy saying the humidity is likely to linger before an easterly trough brings more wet weather.
Police have issued warnings for drivers to not travel in flooded areas after several risky rescues on Friday night.
QLD Taskforce to Examine Sexual Violence and Consent Laws in 2022
The Queensland Women’s Safety and Justice Taskforce will examine sexual violence and whether further changes to consent laws are needed.
This follows report on coercive control and after consent law reforms were passed in state parliament following a Queensland Law Reform Commission review although the review of consent laws is not expected to be finished until June 2022.
