Indonesian Government Officials Found Responsible for Jakarta Air Quality

President Joko Widodo and fellow government advisers have been found responsible for a reduction in air quality in Jakarta by an Indonesian court.

Government officials have been ordered by judges to take steps to improve air quality in the capital so that it is "sufficient to protect human health, the environment and ecosystems".

 

Scammers Impersonate Police to Target the Vulnerable

Police have reported a new scam involving fake Australian Federal Police (AFP) representatives targeting vulnerable members of the community.

The scammers have falsely identified themselves as Federal Agents via phone calls and text messaging, telling victims there is suspicious activity linked to their bank accounts.

Scamwatch have warned the Brisbane public to be wary of any phone calls in which the caller requests personal details such as Medicare numbers, addresses, and bank details.

 

Rally for Women in Afghanistan

Diaspora Advocacy Network for Afghanistan has announced a rally in Brisbane for this Sunday the nineteenth of September.

The rally will be held at King George Square at 2pm and is in support of women living under the Taliban regime.

DANA said they are calling for equal rights to work, education and equal participation for women in Afghanistan.

 

National Unemployment Now Under 5%

The national unemployment rate came in at just under five percent, according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics.

The QLD unemployment rate just topped the national average, with almost one hundred and fifty thousand losing their jobs in August.

Conus Consultancy economist Pete Faulkner said despite only limited lock-downs in Queensland the story was similar to the southern states.

Forum Finance Founder Accused of Fraud

Forum Finance founder Bill Papas has been accused of orchestrating a four hundred million dollar fraud. 

Westpac and two other lenders have brought civil proceedings against Papas, claiming he has forged signatures of managers. 

New South Wales Police are separately investigating the claims against the Australian managed services provider.

 

Australian Farms Set for Good Season

Australian farmers are set to have a good season this year, with values of what is sold expected to reach seventy three billion dollars. 

Following years of drought, mouse plagues and trade sanctions with China, Australian farms have received high volumes of rain and high demand in livestock such sheep and cattle. 

The Government’s economist said that this could mean a rise in supermarket prices by about 5 percent.

 

Submarine Deal Draws French Condemnation

Australia’s recent cancellation of a 90 billion dollar conventional submarine deal has drawn condemnation from France.

The cancellation has come in the wake of the new AUKUS pact. 

France’s Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian has said the cancellation of the 2016 deal is a ‘stab in the back’.

Charity organisation, Maroochydore Neighbourhood Centre, has been experiencing increased pressure as rental prices have soared on the Sunshine Coast.

MNC community development coordinator says that locals have been struggling to pay for essentials in addition to the high cost of rent and have sought assistance from MNC.

This has come at a time when two MNC funded sleep busses are set to hit the streets of the Sunshine Coast, housing twenty people each night.
