Afghani Government to Retrieve Bodies from Iranian Border
Afghan officials have launched a mission to retrieve bodies of migrants from a river in the western province after reports came out that Iranian border guards were torturing and throwing Afghans in the river to prevent border entry.
A senior official from the presidential palace in Kabul suggested after initial assessment at least 70 Afghans were beaten and pushed in the river after trying to enter Iran from bordering Herat province.
Meteor Shower set to show over Australia in May
The Eta Aquariid meteor shower which occurs every May is set to show over Australia this week.
The number of meteors seen will vary state to state with experts saying to catch one start scanning the sky above the eastern horizon.
The meteor shower is created as Earth passes through the tens of thousands of years old dust trail laid down by Halley's comet.
The shower will peak from the morning of May 6 with best time to see them between 2AM and 5AM however can be seen from May 4th to May 8th.
UWA Providing Musical Entertainment to the Elderly
With many elderly and vulnerable Australians remaining inside their homes during the COVID-19 outbreak, a musician from The University of Western Australia has helped provide musical entertainment for the residents of a Perth aged-care facility.
Paul Tunzi, a Master Piano Technician from the university’s Conservatorium of Music mounted one of the University’s pianos to the top of a car trailer before taking a trip to an aged-care residence in Gwelup and setting up a mobile performance venue for the guests.
Discussions begin on reopening Cafes and Restaurants
Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has started discussions with the hospitality industry this week to work out how cafes and restaurants can be COVID-safe for the possibility of reopening.
CEO of Restaurant and Catering Australia has hopes for a re-opening within weeks if practical guidelines are complied with.
The wind back will depend on the number of cases after loosening of restrictions this past weekend and outcomes of this Friday's National Cabinet meeting.
Queensland Premier Clears the way for NRL Season to Resume
The Queensland premier has cleared the path for the NRL season to resume, as the COVID-19 curve flattens in Queensland with no new cases Friday and five more recoveries.
The Premier said the NRL season could resume on May 28th, dependent on Chief Health Officer advice the league's plan is workable, and the NRL's assurance that players won't break restrictions. "It must not put at risk our excellent work containing the spread of COVID-19," the Premier said.
Queensland Government Eases COVID-19 Restrictions
With the government restrictions eased as of May 2nd public gatherings for recreational purposes are allowed.
These include having a picnic in a park or public space that remains open, driving a motor vehicle, including for a learner driver to accumulate driving hours, riding a motorcycle, Boating, jet skiing, or other forms of personalised transport; and shopping for non-essential items at a place permitted to remain open with the use of social distancing.
