Kim Jong-Un on a horse

North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un is pictured riding a white horse in the snow on a sacred mountain in a series of photographs released by the state on Wednesday that experts believe is a sign of a major announcement to come. 

The Korean Central News Agency reported, “His horseback march in Mount Paktu is a great event of weighty importance in the history of Korean revolution.” 

Mount Paktu, the mountain he is photographed on, is supposed to be the spiritual home of the Kim dynasty and the birthplace of Kim Jong-Un’s father. 
 

Sleep apnoea testing

Sleep apnoea technology is currently being trialled to help people protect their mental and physical health with wireless implant that stimulates the tongue to contract and open airways. 

Dr Stuat Mackay, ENT surgeon and Clinical Professor at Wollongong University said “It’s got a small implantable component that is put through an incision under the chin.” 

Sleep apnoea can cause people to stop breathing in their sleep, resulting in fatigue and more vulnerable to health issues. 
 

Is the Tasmanian Tiger extinct?

Several sightings of reported of the extinct Tasmanian tiger have been revealed in Government documents. 

A cyclist said he saw a ‘cat-like’ animal with stripes and darkish brown fur crossing the Lyell Highway early last year. 
The most recent report was August 2018. 

The mammal was officially named extinct after the lat known member of the species died at Hobart Zoo in 1936. 
 

Commonwealth Bank outage

A major outage left countless Commonwealth Bank customers cut off from their online bank accounts, not being able to transfer money between them and  without cardless cash services  from midday yesterday afternoon. 

The bank said it was working urgently to resolve the issue. 

“We’re very sorry for this,” CommBank said on its outage page. 
 

First Nations treaty

Official talks of the First Nations treaty are underway after a series of community consultation sessions took place in Cairns yesterday. 

Minister for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Partnerships, Jakie Trad told parliament, “This is a conversation we hope will go some way to righting the wrongs of the past and setting the foundation for a new and just relationship.”

Consultation sessions are being left by the independent Eminent Panel and Treaty Working Group.
 

Storms in Southeast Queensland

A band of dangerous thunderstorms brought hail to most of southeast Queensland yesterday afternoon. 

Energex spokesman, Danny Donald said, “We’ve already been whacked by about 55,000 lightning strikes... so it’s doing its job, but hey, it’s south-east Queensland - this is what happens.” 

At the storm’s peak, more than 21,000 homes were without power.
