Brisbane’s Murri School Claims that Six Day Camp Provides Emotional and Social Benefits

Brisbane's Murri School has demonstrated an immersive educational curriculum with their annual Humanities and Social Sciences bush camp, which takes students 11 hours from Brisbane, to a six day program out in nature.

The camp has been noted to provide measurable social and emotional benefits for the students, with outdoor recreational activities and cultural artwork activities taking place in partnership with Traditional Custodians.

Gymnast Simone Biles breaks record for all-time most medals won at world championships

American gymnast Simone Biles has won gold in the balance beam and the floor exercise at the world championships, taking her career medals to 25.

Simone Biles has broken the all-time record for most medals by any gymnast at the world championships by winning the balance beam and floor exercise.

The American won her 24th medal on the beam in Stuttgart on Sunday, breaking a tie on 23 with the Belarusian men's gymnast, and added her 25th less than two hours later.

Poland's ruling party declares victory in divided nation

Poland's conservative ruling party Law and Justice won the most votes in a general election held Sunday in the deeply divided nation and appeared, according to an exit poll, to have secured a comfortable majority in the parliament to govern for four more years.

The exit poll, projected that Law and Justice won 43.6 per cent of the votes. 

The poll said that a centrist pro-European Union umbrella group, Civic Coalition, would come in second with 27.4 per cent. The biggest party in the coalition is Civic Platform, which governed Poland from 2007-2015.
 

Free Heart Health Checks from November

From November 1st , Medicare will raise the rebate for heart health checks to 100 per cent, meaning more than 1.5 million Australians at risk of heart attack or stroke will have free access to GP-administered heart health checks.

This follows the February Heart Foundation and News Corp Australia’s award-winning Serial Killer campaign, which saw the Federal Government introduce the new Medicare rebate at 85 per cent, for the nation’s first heart health screening program.

Congestion Charges to Reduce Traffic Jams

A new report by the Grattan Institute is calling for all major cities in Australia to impose a congestion charge on drivers during peak hours to ease heavy traffic in the CBD.

Lead author and the institute's transport program director, Marion Terrill, said new technology meant the charge was the easiest, cheapest and most effective way to reduce congestion in cities. 

The idea behind the charge is that it would encourage people to catch public transport, walk, or ride their bike instead of facing a heavy fee for driving on heavily congested roads. 

$5.8 million Funding to Preserve Historic Brisbane House 

Newstead House, Brisbane's oldest surviving European home and a jewel in south-east Queensland's historical properties, is set to receive $5.8 million of funding for its conservation, making it part of the heritage-listed precinct that will receive government protection.


The house was built in 1846 by Patrick Leslie, a pioneer of the Darling Downs and occupied by several of Brisbane's most notable colonial figures. 

Woman busted for allegedly stealing entire building

An Oklahoma woman was busted for allegedly stealing an entire building and trying to hawk it online, according to a report.

Vicki Treaster, 36, is accused of swiping a metal garage near Oklahoma City then posting an ad on Facebook Marketplace trying to offload it for $A2200

The owner of the structure told police he was browsing the eBay-style page dedicated for selling items online when he spotted a photo of his own building for sale.

A couple has died as part of the bushfires that ripped through northern NSW earlier this week, police have confirmed

The remains of a 77-year-old man and 68-year-old woman — reported to be married couple Bob Lindsey and Gwen Hyde — were found inside a home on Deadman Creek Road in Coongbar. 


A short time ago, two human remains have been identified," Superintendent Toby Lindsay, from Richmond Police LAC said.

The pair had been together for three years and were well-respected members of the wider Ewingar community.
They had a number of livestock at their property that either did not survive or were seriously injured, the NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS) said.
