Yesterday, Education Minister Grace Grace and Ipswich West MP Jim Madden officially opened a new $9.9 million performing arts centre at Ipswich State High School.

Principal Simon Riley said the performing arts centre is a win for not only the school but also the local community as the centre will be used by local Ipswich community groups for various functions.

At 7.30 this morning, four Extinction Rebellion Activists used a canoe to block both commuter lanes on Victoria Bridge during peak hour traffic to demand urgent action on the climate crisis.

A gene-edited tobacco plant has been created with the lowest ever nicotine level, taking the current 16 milligrams of nicotine in a gram of dry tobacco and reducing it to just 0.04 milligrams. 

The researchers have said that low-nicotine cigarettes are just as dangerous to health as regular cigarettes due to other substances they contain but cutting out the nicotine could prevent people becoming addicted and help them give up smoking.
