Cory Bernardi Deregisters Party
Former Liberal senator Cory Bernardi is deregistering his political party the Australia Conservatives, after its poor performance at the federal election.
Bernardi is open to the idea of returning to the Liberal party after leaving in February 2017 to begin his own.
Bernardi says the party’s lack of political success, financial position and the re-election of a Morrison-led government meant the Australian Conservatives are no longer needed.
Weaponised Drones Fly to Brisbane
A new facility for the development of smart weaponised robotic drones will open in Brisbane next month, the weapons will fly and fire by themselves.
It’s expected for the emerging drone industry to be worth hundreds of millions of dollars to Queensland’s economy in 5 to 10 years.
The Innovation Minister, Kate Jones, says they want Queensland to be the drone capital of Australia.
Queensland Fishing Club Cleans Up Waterways
The Jolly Rogers Fishing Club are on a mission to clean up Queensland’s waterways, pulling rubbish out of the Fitzroy River in Rockhampton.
Jolly Rogers CEO, Steph Foote says so far, the club has hauled more than four tonnes of plastic and other items found in the river.
Foote says the club has received a lot of positive feedback from those who use the river, who say there is a lot less rubbish when they go out to fish.
The Biology Of Plants: Vol.2
- On paper The Biology of Plants reads like a recipe for a witches brew, full of unconventional parts and processes. Provided contexts like “classically trained” and reference points like “Tool” display an economy and a rarity in their choices. Unsurprisingly, they’ve picked up awards for Best Jazz Song at Queensland Music Awards with their debut EP Vol. 1, a collection of compositions proving most appreciable within the genre loosley boxed as social and interactive.
The Aints!: 5-6-7-8-9
- Punk pioneers The Saints came out of the confines of the Country Party governess town of Brisbane in the mid-1970s and onto the pages of history as frequently cited influencers for an array of bands far too long to list.
Saints co-founder Ed Kuepper has remained enormously productive in the forty years since he left that band, releasing an astonishing fifty or so albums as part of a variety of bands, projects and solo outings.
Uboa And Bolt Gun: Uboa And Bolt Gun
- Two of the most extreme artists on the roster of one of Australia’s most extreme, experimental labels, have found each other. Uboa and Bolt Gun are both alumni of Art As Catharsis, although their two track, co-self-titled crusher is, apparently a Bandcamp only, indie affair. It’s been apparent for a while that Uboa at least is too prolific for any label to keep up and now, it seems, that influence is rubbing off on those around her.
Review: Queensland Symphony Orchestra's 'Animal Kingdom' at QPAC, Concert Hall
Last Sunday, Queensland Symphony Orchestra shared the stage with the Animal Kingdom. The concert included works from Copland to Debussy, featuring pieces influenced by animals and the natural work. Tailored toward a family audience the concert intrigued all ages. QSO promised animals on stage, the feathered and furry, the small and the large. However, some found the animals harder to spot than others.
