Jason Lambert to represent Australia in World Pinball Championship.

Jason Lambert, one of Australia’s top ranked Pinball players is heading to Italy for the world championships this June competing against more than 60 players.

He  is ranked number 1 in Australia and 48th worldwide, an impressive feat for Lambert who has beenplaying professionally for the last 6 years.   

Pinball arcades started to appear throughout Australia in the past 5 to 10 years with more than 2500 tournament players registered now.

 

Tree-planting schemes harmful to environment

Scientists are warning the NSW Government tree-planting schemes may be doing more harm to the environment than good.

Habitat restoration works in Sydney’s Capertree National Park ordered by the government has worried scientists and environmentalists alike, with former National Parks and Wildlife officers saying the density of the replanted trees could threaten wildlife and vegetation.

New Australian eco-tourism attraction.

The disused Anglesea coal mine in Victoria could be set to be turned into a new Australian eco-tourism attraction.

Representatives from UK-based Charity, Eden Project are sharing their vision for the rehabilitation of the barren industrial site with locals, saying the project is a chance to transform a “formerly poisonous mine” into something beautiful.

Genetics play large role in determing obesity levels.

New research has found genetics play a larger role in determining obesity levels than extrinsic environmental factors alone.

King’s College London geneticist, Robert Plomin analysed the correlations between the body mass indexes of both adoptive and genetic siblings and discovered shared genes play a more important and measurable role than environmental factors when it comes to the propensity to be overweight.

Two genetic siblings who grow up together have a BMI correlation of about 40%, while adoptive siblings have a 0% correlation.

Children dying due to aid group shun.

Doctors Without Borders say children are dying in a collapsed camp for families from the Islamic State caliphate because they are allegedly shunned by aid groups and kept under tight security restrictions.

After Islamic State’s self-declared caliphate collapsed in March 2019, Kurdish-led forces began guarding fighters and their families in the al-Hawl camp in Northern Syria. 

1.2 Billion infrastructure deal.

South East Queensland has secured a 1.2 billion dollar infrastructure deal.

The deal will focus primarily on securing the water, sewerage facilities and roads of areas Yarrabilba and Greater Flagstone which are set to host 200,000 residents by 2066.

Minister for State Development Cameron Dick said that more than 130 construction jobs will be created as a result.

 

Bus and rail underground move forces exit of ‘Brisbane's Ugliest Building’.

The Brisbane Transit Centre, dubbed as the city’s ‘Ugliest building’ is set to be demolished in 2020 to make way for a new transit hub.

Plans to implement a new underground Train station and Bus interchange in inner city Brisbane will go ahead despite lack of federal funding. 

Infrastructure minister Jackie Trad says the move will create a seamless transition between bus and train with transport becoming very reliable and very accessible.
