Over a million Australian drivers

Three US whistleblowers have revealed to Australian journalists over a million Australian drivers have been put at risk due to cheaply designed airbags.

These airbags are seen to possibly spontaneously explode, sending shards of metal at over 300km/h into drivers faces.

The airbags, produced by automotive company Takata, contain an unstable yet inexpensive chemical, ammonium nitrate.

Report reveals millions of Brisbane residents don't have access to public transport

A new report by Infrastructure Australia has revealed more than a million people on Brisbane’s outskirts have minimal access to public transport services such as busses and trains within distance from their home.

In comparison, 200,000 residents in Brisbane’s middle suburbs could not quickly access public transport, with only 17,000 in inner city Brisbane.

Government allocates funds to build an artificial intelligence hub

Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has allocated funds to build an artificial intelligence hub, to properly cater for the growing industry in need of skilled workers.

The hub would offer services that can’t be performed by humans, such as robotics, machine learning and speech recognition.

The Premier says “[Queensland] have up to eight times more AI jobs on offer in the state than people with the right skills available to fill them.”

Lachlan X. Morris: Premeditations

- Premeditations is the sophomore album by Novocastrian, Lachlan X. Morris. Self-professed purveyor of ‘dad-rock’, Morris’ style is vexing to characterise. While his sterling debut, Ouija Board Heartbreak Tambourine, had a classic rock vibe, like something you’d belatedly find in your dad’s record collection, Premeditations is more akin to something your ‘shroom-ingesting uncle might turn you onto. Despite making it difficult to pin an accurate genre on Morris, the dichotomy is impressive.

Thom Yorke: Suspiria: Music For The Luca Guadagnino Film

- Suspiria, Dario Argento’s cult Italian-American horror film is celebrating its fortieth anniversary in 2018. Rather than staring at its naked body in the mirror on its fortieth birthday, wondering “what happened to me?”, the film has been remade by Luca Guadagnino. Thom Yorke, of Radiohead fame, and who coincidentally is dating an Italian actress, is enlisted for soundtrack duties; but is it a re-imagination or merely remake of the original soundtrack?

Boy George & Culture Club: Resting Bitch Face

- Rebirths in the musical world come along with the regularity of Doctor Who’s reincarnations, and like the Time Lord’s 13 lives (or 14, depending how you count ‘em), some are more successful than others, some more enjoyable, some more ground-breaking and advancing a well-known theme; a bit like Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Twelve Variations on ‘Ah, vous dirai-je, Maman’.

Julia Holter: Aviary

- Across the four studio albums she has put out to date, Julia Holter has undergone an intriguing transition from her ambient-focused debut album, Tragedy, to the more accessible art pop of her last record, Have You in My Wilderness. The key trend that has remained throughout is that she has never been one to shrink from ambition; rather she's consistently unafraid to experiment and do away with predictable structures.
