Review: Love Letters to F***bois

Theatrical, entertaining, confronting and absolutely charming.

Wightman and Stark have gone above and beyond with their performance Love Letters to F***bois. It will be showing at Metro Arts until the 18th of August so get in before then, I guarantee it will be worth it. It’s entertaining, interactive, engaging and deeply honest.

Review: Mother

Noni Hazlehurst, an Australian treasure, with a career starting in the early 70’s, has touched an entire generation. Each time I discussed the show Mother to family and friends, mentioning Hazlehurst, I got the same recognition each time, of her presence in Play School.

Pink Matter: Human Error

- There’s been no shortage of charismatic, talented frontwomen representing for the future in neo-soul. From Nai-Palm to Syd Tha Kid: they’re progressive musically, with those avant-garde but infectious grooves and also socially, crashing through all the sexist glass ceilings and, y’know, actually being women, doing music. Why not take it a step further and be like Brisbane’s Pink Matter, a neo-soul quartet wholly comprised of women?

Phantastic Ferniture: Phantastic Ferniture

- When a prominent artist steps away from their solo project to front a band, it can be hard to not compare the two and pick a favourite. Don't worry though, Phantastic Ferniture, which is fronted by Julia Jacklin, and flanked by Liz Hughes and Ryan K Brennan, has dropped a serious body of work by way of their self-titled, debut album. Showcasing the ample musicality of the band members, it never relies too much on the forward push from having Jacklin's name tied to it.

Porpoise Spit: God Yeah!

- Melbourne four-piece, self-proclaimed rosé rock n rollers Porpoise Spit have released their new EP titled God Yeah! According to the band, the EP is a “nod to riding out the hard times with your chosen family, queerness and heartbreak”. The five tracks are a dose of high energy that will continue ringing throughout your body long after you have listened to it.

Little Ugly Girls: Little Ugly Girls

- It's taken over twenty years for Melbourne via Hobart band Little Uglyr Girls to release an album documenting their on-again, off-again musical legacy. Their long-anticipated debut self-titled record finally sees its release with the help of long time fans of the band, Chapter Music. Comprised mostly of tracks that have existed since the early '90s, from unreleased recording sessions later on in the decade, resurrected with the help of new sessions in recent years.
