Fake Banking Apps Scam

Over a thousand Commonwealth and ANZ bank customers have been caught up in a fake banking app scam, after downloading malicious apps masquerading as real banking services.

The fake apps went undetected for weeks, phishing credit card and bank information, as well as other personal details from unaware customers.

Whilst Google cannot confirm the number of people who have handed over personal information to these apps before they were removed from the app stores, the number is suspected to be in the thousands.

 

Sunrise Face Backlash Over Racist Comments

Following a segment on Indigenous adoption earlier this year on sunrise, a group of aboriginal elders have launched a complaint with the Australian Human Rights Commission.  

The complaint in question is in response to a inaccuracy made by presenter Samantha Armytage claiming indigenous children could only be adopted by Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander families which lead to a panelist suggesting the need for a second ‘stolen generation’ for the children’s wellbeing.

Woolies Lifts Milk Prices to Help Local Farmers

The price of Homebrand milk is set to go up by 30 cents to $3.30 across eastern Australia, with the extra money going to help out drought stricken farmers.

The temporary rise in price will carry on until Woolworths launches their “drought relief” milk range in mid-October.

A drought relief committee is being set up, to ensure that all of the extra money is distributed to dairy farmers in need during these tough times.

 

Lost in Croc Country

A search is underway for a 69-year-old camper who went missing in a Far North Queensland area known as ‘crocodile country’.

At around 11am on Wednesday, the man left a campsite 20 km from Lockhart River, but failed to return by 5pm. This is when an alarm was raised.

Police located some of the man’s belongings during an initial search that took place yesterday. Additional crew and the Rescue 510 helicopter have been brought in this morning to advance the search.

 

A Lot of Bull

A man in South-West Queensland has died after a bull charged into him on a remote property.

 

The man, believed to be in his 70s, suffered critical head injuries as a result of the charge.

 

After 11:17am yesterday, emergency services were called to the property at Barney View in the Scenic Rim region. The man died at the scene.

 

Parliament Bill provides widespread support for Child Sex abuse victims

New state legislation di has been passed allowing thousands of Queensland survivors of child sex abuse with counseling, compensation and a personal response.

 

Child Safety Minister Di Farmer said the Queensland Government was committed to ensuring that victims of institutional child sex abuse in Queensland were acknowledged and had access to the redress they deserved as there are an expected 10000 victims seeking redress with half being from government institutions.

 

Scott Morrison Against Sacking Dutton over Au Pair Scandal

Prime minister Scott Morrison says he has “full confidence” in Peter Dutton despite the recent au pair scandal.

 

A Senate inquiry has found that Dutton “misled” parliament by denying his personal connection to the women he released from immigration detention and granted VISAs to.

 

Dutton had a personal relationship with those employing the Au Pairs, but categorically denied this connection when asked about it in the lower house.

 

Hotel Havoc

Six people have been hospitalized after a chemical leak at Sydney’s Pullman hotel.

 

At 9am on Wednesday, emergency services were called to the scene, following reports that gases had spread throughout the ventilation system on the top floors of the hotel.

 

A hotel spokeswoman says the incident occurred because of a mistake made during pool maintenance. An incorrect dosage of pool chemicals caused a toxic gas to emit and enter the adjacent air intake.
