A long lived Christmas tree is finally facing the music and being taken down after gracing the Serbian capital of Belgrade for over six months.

The Mayor has defended his prolonged festival attitude, saying that Belgrade was "a European metropolis” and that they “must be competitive".

The length of the christmas tree’s stay has been steadily increasing since the Mayor, Mr Sinisa Mali, took up the office in 2014.

A man was killed after being run over by a rubbish truck early this morning while sleeping in a laneway off Adelaide Street.

Anzac Square management has blamed Brisbane City Council for the death, alleging the Council has failed to maintain the lighting in the laneway.

A Council spokesman says the lighting system was last tested on February 22 and it was in full working order.

A fossilized shark tooth has gone missing from its secret excavation site along the remote Ningaloo Coast World Heritage Area.
