85-year-old holocaust survivor victim of murder

An 85-year-old holocaust survivor was murdered in her Paris home in what prosecutors are treating as an anti-Semitic attack.

The holocaust survivor was known for fleeing a mass roundup of Jews in Paris during World War 2.

Two men have been arrested over the woman’s killing and are to be brought before a magistrate to face possible charges of “murder related to the victim’s religion as well as aggravated robbery and destruction of property."

Australian workers to receive five days domestic violence leave

Millions of Australian workers will be able to access five days unpaid domestic violence leave a year after the industrial umpire rejected a union push for ten days paid leave.  

The new leave provisions are estimated to be available for 2.3 million Australians on modern awards and the federal government plans to further this through legislation.

Labor MP and domestic violence survivor Emma Hasur said the federal government had missed the point and paid leave was necessary for victims of domestic violence.

Peter Dutton questioned over visas for au-pairs

Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton is being questioned over his use of Ministerial power to grant visas to two tourists acting as au-pairs in 2015.

Mr Dutton has denied any personal connection to the women and has said he has intervened in multiple cases to cancel or grant visas.

Further details have not been released with the ministry citing privacy concerns.

Logan Mayor charged with corruption

The Mayor of Logan City has spent the night in Beenleigh watch house charged with three offences: official corruption, perjury and failing to correct his register of interests.

It has been revealed by the ABC that Mayor Luke Smith received a luxury boat from a Chinese developer who was a significant election campaign donor.

Councillor Smith sold the boat last year, and states he is working willingly and openly with the investigation.

Newly-discovered mummy unearthed from Sydney University archives

Archaeologists have found the remains of a mummy in a coffin previously thought to be empty.

The assumed empty coffin was being stored at Sydney University, where it sat for one-hundred-and-fifty years.

The mummy is not whole and the remains have been heavily disturbed, researchers are hoping to find toenails which are some of the best body parts for radiocarbon dating.

Australia to possibly expel Russian diplomats, following UK and US

Reports suggest that Australia will soon expel several Russian diplomats, following in the footsteps of Britain and the United states who are expelling over eighty diplomats.

The expulsions follow the attack on a former Russian spy and his daughter in Britain.

Eighteen countries in total have now announced plans to expel Russian diplomats, making it the largest since the Cold War.

64 dead in Siberia shopping centre blaze

A shopping centre blaze in Siberia has killed 64 people making it one of the deadliest blazes in Russia since the breakup of the Soviet Union.

Following the blaze, allegations of negligence and violations of fire safety have been made.

A spokesperson for emergency services says that 288 emergency personnel, 62 fire units and an airborne group were required to assist in taming the fire.

Not 4 but 16 military licences granted to Saudi Arabia

Documents have been released under Freedom of Information laws confirming 16 military licences were granted for the export of military equipment from Australia to Saudi Arabia in 2016 and 2017.

Until now, it was believed that only four military licences were issued.

This request comes from calls from several human rights groups such as Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch, to put pressure on Australia to disclose defense deals with Saudi Arabia.
