Woppaburra People Celebrate as Native Title Decision Handed Down

The Woppaburra People are celebrating  a successful native title determination after receiving a determination on Friday. 

Woppaburra woman Lesley Barney says she felts her ancestors with her as the determination was passed down and that the decision will play a crucial role in the Woppaburra People’s journey towards healing.

Bob Muir says he can finally feel at home in his country and says “We can give our young ones a future”.

 

Ipswich to Be Home to Largest Animal Genomics Lab in Australia

Ipswich is set to be home to Australia's largest animal genomics lab.

Neogen Australasia are helping to transform the former University of Queensland suite at Bundamba into an 11 million $ facility which will provide genomic work as well as food diagnostic and biosecurity services  for the agriculture sector. 

Neogen Australaisa says Ipswich is the perfect place to put the facility with the town having a skilled workforce and strong industry supply chains.

 

Flood Warnings in South East QLD Amid Heavy Rainfalls

Renewed flooding remains possible across parts of the Bremer River and Warrill Creek, with the Bureau of Meteorology issuing a flood warnings. 

After heavy rainfall over the last week, many motorists are wanted to watch out for possible flood water with police stressing not to risk it with multiple rescues over the last week due to flooded areas.

 

Berejiklian Possible Run in Warringah Following Favourability Rebound

After resigning as NSW Premier investigations over whether she breached the public trust, senior Liberals say Gladys Berejiklian could run in the seat of Warringah.

With a delay in the closure for nominations for Warringah specifically for Ms Berejiklian more time, the wait is on for whether the findings and her standing will impact her consideration on running in the seat. 

With Ms Berejiklian’s favorability rebounding significantly since her ICAC appearances, insiders have said she is now considering running.

 

COVID Update: Children Aged 5 and Older Will Be Able to Get Vaccinated

The Therapeutic Goods Administrations has has conditionally approved the COVID129 vaccine COMIRNATY for use in children ages 5 and older. 

The first shipments are expected to land before Christmas.

Despite Chief Medical Officer Professor Paul Kelly recommending shortening the time between the second and third dose, the Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation has decided to keep the current 6 month interval.

 

Nations Condemn Afghanistan Regime Following Targeted Killings

Following a Humans Rights Watch report earlier this week which documented more than 100 executions of former Afghanistan government officials, nations have condemned the Taliban regime in a joint statement. 

More than 22 nations demanded that the Taliban uphold its pledge not to harm former government officials, with the regime denying the allegations in a statement to the BBC. 

This follows an August report by Amnesty International have found numerous reports of targeted killings near Dahani Qul village with 11 former soldiers killed and 2 civilians.

 

Call In For Company Applying To Build Landfill In Ipswich

The company who wants to build a new dump at Ipswich as part of a 200 million recycling centre will be called in by State Development Steven Miles as Ipswich City Council rejected the landfill but accepted the recycling centre. 

Wanless Recyclers are now appealing the application in the Planning and Environment Court. 

Mr Miles says the call in of the full Wanless application will require Wanless to demonstrate capacity in reducing waste to landfill.

 

QLD COVID Update

There are no new local Covid19 cases in Queensland on Sunday but six travellers have been detected in home and hotel quarantine. 

The Therapeutic Goods Administration has approved the Pfizer vaccination for use in Australian children aged 5 to 11. 

Acting Chief Health Officer Dr Peter Aitken says the six new cases in quarantine consisted of interstate and international travellers.

 

Family Fearful After Footage Shows Police Officer Threat

Footage from Cunnamulla of a police officer threatening to flog an Indigenous man has led to an informal internal review.

In footage where the officer is speaking to the man’s sister he says the man should turn himself in otherwise the man would be flogged.

Darryn Munn, the man’s father has said the entire family is scared and that the man has fled for fear of his life after seeing the footage of the police officer giggling.

The Queensland Police Service has told the ABC South West District that it is conducting internal inquiries.
