Investigation over Tasmanian tree poisoning

A southern Tasmanian council is investigating the deliberate poisoning of nearly a dozen trees that authorities suspect were targeted to improve the coastal view.

The Clarence City Council says the trees, which are located on Hobart's eastern shoreline, were found drilled with holes of varying sizes for the purpose of administering poison. The council has referred the incident to police.

Blue Tongue Lizard nearly impervious

Researchers at the University of Queensland’s Venom Evolution Lab are investigating if any animals have developed defences against the red bellied black snakes’ venom.

They found the blue-tongued lizard to be virtually impervious to the venom, as they tested the lizard’s blood against the venom and found almost no effect.

PM under fire over Father's Day flight

Scott Morrison is under fire after it was revealed that he jetted to Sydney during lockdown for Father’s Day while Aussie families remain separated.

The Prime Minister was granted an exemption to fly to Sydney from Canberra for Father’s Day aboard a taxpayer-funded VIP flight during lockdown, breaching protocols requiring those returning interstate from Sydney to isolate for 14 days.  

Gold Coast tourism job slash

Concerning new research by the Tourism and Transport Forum revealed around 20 per cent of jobs in the tourism sector of the Gold Coast have been cut due to the impact of Covid 19. 

The total drop in tourism employment is forecasted to reach 36 per cent by December due to bans on interstate travel, affecting more than 4,500 tourism businesses.
