Parks Australia to fight back against claims made by the Aboriginal Protection Authority

The federal government’s “Parks Australia” is set to fight allegations of damage to a sacred site.

Parks Australia shares the management of Kakadu National Park with traditional owners; however, Parks Australia is being accused of breaching conditions for building a walking track near the iconic Gunlom falls infinity pool.   

The Aboriginal Protection Authority claims the track was built near a sacred site without authority. 

If found guilty, Parks Australia could be faced with a $314,000 fine.

 

Police confirm Dominic Perrottet will not be fined

Newly appointed NSW premier Dominic Perrottet will not be fined following his decision to drink beer while standing in a pub. 

Footage from a recent press conference shows Premier Perrottet and Deputy Premier Paul Toole standing behind the bar at a Sydney pub drinking beer, something which at the time was restricted. 

NSW police confirmed last night neither the Premier or the venue would face a fine as “Compliance with Covid-19 restrictions within a venue are the responsibility of the business owner slash manager,” police said. 

World leaders urged to take climate action

11 chief executives have called on world leaders to “take meaningful action”. 

In an open letter, the business leaders urged governments to take action on mass extinctions of wildlife and ecosystems to prevent the risk of a “dead planet”. 

In the letter, the Business for Nature Coalition says the current draft of the ‘Paris-style UN agreement didn’t go far enough.’ The warning comes as China is set to host a major UN environment meeting this week.

 

COVID Update: No New Local Cases

COVID update: No new local cases recorded. One recorded in hotel quarantine. 

Queensland has not recorded any locally acquired community cases since October 5th. 

Chief Health Officer Jeanette Young has encouraged Queenslanders to go and get vaccinated with 18 schools opening as pop-up sites over the weekend.

Federal MP sues Nine News

Federal MP Andrew Laming is suing Nine News broadcast, arguing that they damaged his reputation when it presented him as a “lecherous” person and a “pervert”.

Dr Laming from the Queensland seat of Bowman is suing the broadcast network for a news bulletin on March 27 of this year. 

Nine’s barrister Lyndelle Barnett said the key issues in the defence were Dr Laming’s conduct in relation to taking a photograph and “bullying constituents”.

 

Beekeepers to have National Park stays extended

Queensland beekeepers who were meant to shift away from national parks by 2024 have had their stays extended until 2044 due to bushfires and drought. 

1088 professional apiary sites located within 49 Queensland national parks will now be able to extend their stays as Agriculture Minister Mark Furner said the decision had to be made quickly as few alternative sites had been found. 

US Navy Engineer charged trying to sell submarine secrets

A US Navy engineer has been charged in attempting to sell secrets about the nuclear submarines. 

After receiving 10,000 in cryptocurrency, Jonathan Toebbe alongside his wife attempted to provide information to an FBI agent in a month-long investigation.

Under the new AUKUS deal, Australia will be transferred secret nuclear submarine technology.
