A Grattan Institute report is calling for a complete rethink of immigration policy in Australia. 

In an effort to boost the economy and slow the rate of an aging population, the report says Australia should shift from taking older migrant workers, to younger and more skilled workers with proficient English.

A parliamentary inquiry by the Federal government into Australia’s skilled migration program is due to report back in July.

A gay rights group is warning of increasing homophobia in Spain. 

Five gay men were targeted in three separate attacks in Barcelona over the weekend. 

The city council head of citizenship rights Marc Serra Solé says every effort will be made to avoid normalising the situation of ongoing homophobia in the country.

The Observatory against Homophobia has registered 76 such attacks in Catalonia so far this year.

The State Government says it will be looking to open major vaccination hubs in large Queensland venues, such as Suncorp Stadium and the RNA showgrounds.

14 community vaccination hubs are set to open across the state in the near future.

However, these hubs cannot go ahead until the state government has confirmation from the federal government that a steady supply of vaccines will be delivered going forth.

Kangaroo Point residents are calling on the council to reopen the local ferry terminal. 

A rally on Saturday saw residents criticise the Brisbane City Council’s move to close the Dockside ferry terminal.

Protesters highlighted a lack of public transport options for Kangaroo Point residents, which they say is already strained in the densely populated suburb.

Residents have reportedly started relying on cars after arguing there is a lack of funding for public transport from the Brisbane City Council.
 

The Gold Coast’s Pacific Fair is under fire from 50 Breastfeeding mothers who protested at the shopping centre last Friday. 

They’re protesting the treatment of a woman who was asked to move on when breastfeeding on Friday.

Shannon Laverty says she was sitting near luxury stores when a woman from a nearby concierge desk suggested she use the parents room and asked to leave. 

A Pacific Fair spokesperson says the interaction was a “misunderstanding” but the protesters believe it’s an example of normalised discrimination.

New South Wales opposition leader Jodi McKay says she will stand down as leader of the Labor party.

It comes after Labor lost the Upper Hunter byelection to the Nationals, after holding the seat for ninety years.

Former New South Wales Labor leader Michael Daley says he will run for labor leadership, along with Chris Minns,the party’s current transport spokesman.

Over 600 musicians are standing in solidarity with Palestine, signing a letter pledging to boycott performing in Israel. 

The open letter, Musicians for Palestine, is signed by famous musicians including Pink Floyd's Roger Waters, Rage against the Machine and Patti Smith.

Iraqi-Canadian rapper, Yassin Alasalman helped organize this open letter and is calling on many others to join the musician in support to end the violence against Palestine. 

United States President Joe Biden faces pressure from abroad, after more than 10,000 people attended an anti-US rally in Ethiopia's capital, Addis Ababa.

The protesters denounced President Biden’s call for a ceasefire to the conflict in the country's northern region of Tigray, now in its seventh month.

The conflict began last November, when Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed ordered an attack on forces loyal to the region's former ruling party, the Tigray People's Liberation Front, after they had overrun federal army bases.
