Full Power Happy Hour - Self Titled Album

Meanjin/Brisbane alt-country/indie-folk five-piece Full Power Happy Hour first captured hometown hearts with their heartfelt, high-energy live shows and now they’ve parlayed that momentum into their self-titled debut album, an enchanting collection of great depth and beauty based around the beguiling songs and bewitching vocals of singer-songwriter Alex Campbell.

The band’s unique aesthetic mixes the intimacy and fragility of ‘60s folk singers like Joni Mitchell and Joan Baez with the ramshackle bonhomie of The Pogues, tempered by a more modern indie-rock sensibility akin to The Clean, with results that are purely and defiantly Full Power Happy Hour. Equal parts confident and vulnerable, these eight tracks demand attention with their impassioned lyrics, joyful instrumentation and heart-stirring harmonies, the perfect antidote to these turbulent times and a fitting reminder of life’s inherent beauty."

4ZZZ Announcer Andy Paine reviewed the album on 4ZZZ's The New Releases Show:

"Full Power Happy Hour is the debut self-titled album from the Brisbane four-piece, following their Fun EP from 2019. The record could be seen as part of a local revival of the jangly pop music that was once referred to as “the Brisbane sound”, following popular albums over the last couple of years from Dumb Things and The Double Happiness. Full Power Happy Hour are maybe a bit lighter on the jangly guitar than either of them, but there is a likeness in the laid back guitar pop and reflective personal lyrics."

Spiritual Mafia: Alfresco

<p><span><span>- Garage rock outfit Spiritual Mafia’s members are spread across Victoria, Queensland, and Northern Territory. Accordingly, despite playing a handful of shows a number of years ago, it’s taken the band a number of years to scrape together their debut LP, <em>Alfresco</em>.

Nectax: Source Code

<p><span><span>- It sure is an odd time to be an electronic dance music creator. UK based drum’n’bass producer Nectax dropped his new <em>Source Code</em> EP this week to a country where social events are legally restricted to outdoor meetings, two metres apart, with one other person. The UK dance scene is used to navigating illegal gathering laws, but that used to apply to raves in the forest, not going to the shop to buy a record.</span></span></p>
