The Queensland Council of Social Service the federal budget has missed its opportunity to act on the housing crisis in Queensland.

QCOSS CEO Aimee McVeigh says while the federal budget’s investment in services is welcome, a proper response requires more than services.  She says Domestic violence is the most common reason given for homelessness and there is no funding in this budget to build new social homes in Queensland or to continue a rental investment incentive scheme to support low income earners.

The Queensland chief health officer says there was no need for concern when a Covid-19 positive traveller arrived in Brisbane last week.

The traveller had arrived from Papua New Guinea and News corp had reported that the ground crew fled the plane when doors were open. 

Chief Health Officer Jeannette Young says the gentleman was a fully recovered case, he was a historical case.

University of Queensland researchers have discovered a molecular pathway they hope will help fight COVID, cancer and other diseases. 

They’ve visualised the protein M-Y-D-eighty-eight, responsible for passing messages from immune cell receptors to the body, triggering the body’s immune response. 

Sometimes the transmission can malfunction, leading to inflammation worsening the body’s ability to fight disease.

Professor Bostjan Kobe and his colleagues hope their study could help develop a way to block these receptors.

Protestors from Extinction Rebellion are blocking traffic to Parliament House in Canberra today to protest the lack of action on climate change and the allocation of $51 billion towards fossil fuels.

The Royal Australian Navy has been linked to the death of two whales after berthing in San Diego.

The Department of Defence told the ABC that while HMAS Sydney was birthing alongside Naval Base San Diego in California two deceased whales dislodged from her hull beneath the surface”.

The Australian and United States Navy’s are reviewing the incident with local marine authorities.

Brisbane river Kittycat ferries are being retrofitted with wet mufflers after 169 noise complaints were made to the council.

Kangaroo point and Newfarm residents made the complaints and the council realised that the ferries did not meet Australian standards.

Active transport committee chairman Ryan Murphy said all five ferries will be fitted by the end of June and the upgrades will have no impact on the timetabled service.

Brisbane city council has granted the historic lamb house in Kangaroo point permanent protection from development.

Lamb house was recently put up for sale by the Brisbane city council but has now decided to ensure the house cannot be subdivided or redeveloped.

Brisbane Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner says the protections put on Lamb house are the strongest that can be put on a property.

Every Australian who leaves hospital after a suicide attempt will be offered at least three months of follow-up care, under new funding promised in the federal budget. 

It is one of several new or expanded programs that have been promised in the budget, with $2.3 billion committed to mental health and suicide prevention over the next four years.

The Women's National Basketball League is set to become fully professional with a new total player payment system that will see a salary cap ceiling of Four hundred and twenty thousand dollars.

The total player payment system allows The TPP also allows players to be paid for player appearances and lets players access scholarship and educational payments.
