Australian alternative rock festival comes to Queensland
An Australian alternative rock festival, Spring Loaded, is set to kick off in Sydney in May before moving to Cairns and Brisbane in what could be one of Australia’s first large-scale touring festivals since the pandemic hit Australian shores.
Bands such as Grinspoon, You Am I, Regurgitator, Jebediah, and Frenzal Rhomb will grace the stages in Queensland before moving on to South Australia, the NT, New South Wales, WA and Victoria.
Tickets will go on sale on 24 March.
March 4 Justice organisers refuse meeting with Prime Minister
Organisers of the March 4 Justice protest today have refused a meeting with the Prime Minister after receiving an invitation, instead suggesting he use the time to attend the protest himself.
The simultaneous actions are scheduled across the country today in protest of gendered violence against women in the wake of a series of allegations made against Federal politicians.
Tens of thousands of people are expected to join the marches in over 40 separate events planned.
Landslide Labor victory in Western Australia
Labor is set to win a historic victory after the Western Australia state election over the weekend, with current estimates predicting the party will hold 52 of the 59 seats in the lower house.
Mark McGowan, the returned WA Premier, has said that the landslide victory is thanks to his party’s centrist and "middle-of-the-road" stance.
The results have left the Liberal Party with too few elected members to form an Opposition, with the Nationals set to replace them.
Backlash against London police after peaceful vigil disrupted violently

Police in London are facing significant backlash from citizens and politicians alike after heavy-handed tactics were used to quell a peaceful vigil in memory of Sarah Everard who was allegedly murdered by a serving police officer.
Police had denied permission for the vigil which was to be held in Clapham Common where Ms Everard was last seen alive, however, hundreds of people still attended throughout Saturday to pay their respects to Ms Everard.

International Students and The Elderly Partner up to Combat Loneline

International students and the elderly have teamed up through an Adopt A Nonni Program (ANP) to combat increased loneliness and depression.
Since the COVID-19 pandemic, culturally and linguistically diverse seniors and international students have been increasingly isolated.
A pool of young people has stepped up to spend one hour per fortnight visiting a senior.
Colombian student Paola joined the initiative after experiencing loneliness and depression during the pandemic last year.

Brendan Murphy makes confusing statements about COVID-19 vaccinations
The Secretary of Australia’s Health department, Brendan Murphy, has been criticised for his claim one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine is enough to be fully vaccinated.
Labor senator Katy Gallagher says Professor Murphy’s statement was ‘dangerous’.
Professor Murphy has since clarified his statement, saying all Australians should aim to get two shots. He denies claims it aimed to provide political cover for the Morrison government’s lofty vaccination targets.
AstraZeneca vaccinations on hold in European nations after reports of blood clots
Danish health authorities have suspended AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccinations for fourteen days after a sixty-year-old woman died from blood clots following vaccination.
A similar suspension has been introduced in Norway and Iceland. The Norwegian Institute of Public Health has not said how long the suspension will last.
