Coronavirus is positively affecting the private jet industry due to the perception of a decreased risk of contracting coronavirus on private aircraft.

Fines will apply if people are caught not self isolating

The West Australian government has threatened penalties of $50,000 to those who refuse to self-isolate when instructed.

Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said refusing to self-isolate could mean fines of $13,000 in her state.

While it began as a voluntary measure, self-isolation has started to become mandatory in some circumstances.

There are 35 confirmed cases of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in Queensland.  

Currently, all cases are in South-East Queensland, excluding one individual in Kingaroy and one individual in Rockhampton.

Construction of Brisbanes Newest bridge.

Minister for Innovation and Tourism Industry Development, the Honorable Kate Jones, has announced the construction of Brisbane’s first bridge in over a decade.

The Neville Bonner bridge will span 320 metres from Queens Wharf shopping and dining precinct to the cultural hub in South Bank.

The bridge is expected to be completed in 2022 and supports more than 10,000 people every day.  

Los Angeles residents now stocking up on guns.

Fearful of a coronavirus meltdown, people in Los Angeles are rushing to gun stores to buy pistols, semi-automatic weapons and boxes of ammunition.

Some LA residents have been waiting in long queues, shoulder-to-shoulder, for up to five hours.

John Gore told the LA times that people need to be prepared for anything and to protect themselves.

US slashes interest rates

The US Federal Reserve has slashed interest rates by a full percentage point to nearly zero to help the economy withstand the impact of coronavirus.

The Federal reserve says it will restart quantitative easing, in a bid to get money flowing again in markets and the broader economy.

The moves are similar to those taken to stimulate the economy after the 2008 financial crisis.

National self-isolation to be imposed for UK senior citizens

People over 70 years old in the UK will soon be asked to self-isolate to protect themselves from the risk of contracting coronavirus, the UK Health Secretary, Matt Hancock says.

The country's elderly population will need to remain isolated at home for up to four months to protect themselves.

Leading Scottish officials are stressing elderly people will not be asked to avoid all contact with other people.

Royal Commission Tasmania community forums postponed

The Royal Commission into Violence, Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation of People with Disability have postponed scheduled community forums in northern Tasmania due to concerns about the coronavirus outbreak.

At this stage, the Royal Commission’s public hearing on education in Brisbane will go ahead, but organisers say they will follow the advice of medical experts. 

Royal Commission Chair, Ronald Sackville AO QC is advising, people can still make their voices heard.

ACT follows Victoria, calls State of Emergency

The ACT joins Victoria in declaring a State of Emergency this morning.

The announcement allows the government to implement for the first time measures under the Health and Wellbeing Act to enforce 14 day isolation periods for ALL travellers entering the territory.  

The second case of coronavirus in the ACT was confirmed yesterday by the ACT’s Chief Health Officer, Dr Kerryn Coleman.
