90-year mystery unravelled using a new mathematical algorithm
A collaboration between Exciton Science, UNSW and CSIRO – has solved one of the fundamental mysteries of chemistry, in turn supplying the data that may positively impact the future designs of solar cells and other next-gen technologies. Scientists led by Timothy Schmidt from the ARC Centre of Excellence in Exciton Science and UNSW Sydney have succeeded in unravelling the 90-year mystery using a new mathematical algorithm developed by co-author Dr Phill kerby from CSIRO’s Data61.
Tourism Night Of Nights To Hit Sunshine coast
Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has announced Queensland will host the 2021 Australian Tourism Awards for the first time in close to a decade.
The Premier today announced Australian tourism’s night of nights would head to the Sunshine Coast in February next year.

Refugees face danger in PNG
A violent attack by local men early Sunday morning targeted Manus Island refugees being housed in a hotel in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea.
The men attacked the gate, saying "This is not your country. We will kill them."
The attack is the second in three weeks, but police did not attend, despite numerous calls.
Spokesperson for the Refugee Action Coalition, Ian Rintoul, says the Australian government is responsible for leaving the refugees in danger.
Young Australians concerned about climate change's impact on oceans
A new survey released for Sustainable Seafood Week reveals 9 in 10 young Australians are concerned about the impact of climate change on our oceans.
Figures show one-third of the world's seafood population is in decline, with 88% of young Aussies concerned about what that could mean for our future generations.
"We can all do more to promote a sustainable seafood industry," says the Marine Stewardship Council's Anne Gabriel.
Small businesses call for Newstart increase in government stimulus package
The Council of Small Business Organisations of Australia and the Australian Council of Social Services are calling for an increase to Newstart to be included in the Federal Government’s impending economic stimulus package.
"A Newstart increase of $95 per week would deliver a $4 billion boost to the economy and generate thousands of jobs," according to Council of Small Business Organisations of Australia CEO, Peter Strong.
New small claims process to combat wage theft in Queensland
The Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Yvette D’Ath, says a new streamlined small claims process will be introduced to support Queensland’s 437 000 underpaid workers.
"Almost half of workers who experience wage theft do not try to recover owed monies because the process is complicated and time-consuming," says Ms. D'ath.
“The first and main priority is to repay workers what is owed to them”.
International Women's Day fun run raises over $1million
Brisbane’s International Women’s Day Fun Run, held yesterday, has raised over 1 million dollars to support women affected by Breast Cancer.
The annual event saw over 13,500 participants in pink shirts walk or run a 6km and 10km course.
Nikita Moore received the day’s fastest time in the 6 kilometer category, running 22 minutes and 37 seconds.
New Coronavirus case in Queensland
One new case of Coronavirus has been confirmed in Queensland.
A 38-year-old woman from the Gympie region has been transferred to an isolation room in the Sunshine Coast University Hospital.
The woman recently travelled from London through Dubai. Contact tracing is underway and the community will be notified if any public health alert is required.
Queensland Health is urging anyone who has been overseas in the last 14 days and is feeling unwell to see a doctor immediately.
