The Chordites: Taking A Ride

<p><span><span><span>- Veteran Brisbane rockers The Chordites know their rock’n’roll. Although The Chordites have only been about for three years, the band’s members have done time in outfits that local folks may recognise: </span><strong>The Daisygrinders</strong><span>, </span><strong>Subsonic Barflies </strong><span>and </span><strong>Death Of A Nun</strong><span> for instance.

The Orielles

- The Orielles hail from Halifax, Yorkshire and captured the ears of this reviewer with their debut album from 2018, Silver Dollar Moment. This record showed the band’s gift for charismatic indie pop that adeptly combined C86-esque jangle, serrated choppy riffs a la The Fall and a strikingly percussive element that had parallels with post-punk funk outfits like A Certain Ratio.

Nicaraguan Human Rights Violations Prompts Further US Sanctions

The United States today has commenced sanctions against the Nicaraguan National Police force in response to human rights abuses in the central American nation. 

 

In a statement the US department of Treasury outlined that the Nicaraguan president Daniel Ortega who has been in office since 2007, has utilized the NNP for the violent suppression of pro-democracy activists and citizenry

 

Qantas Sanitary Conditions Slammed

Qantas has been issued with an improvement notice by safework New South Wales after inspectors said the airline could potentially be placing passengers at risk of contracting infectious diseases such as coronavirus.  

The Safework New-South-Wales report said that employees are required to handle wet and used tissues, used face masks and soiled nappies without the adequate protective equipment to do so.

It was also found that cleaners have been using the same cloths to wipe tray tables and other surfaces.

Defence Minister Alex Hawks’ Comments Start Diversity Debate

Liberal Assistant Defence Minister Alex Hawke has been accused of stoking racist sentiment after claiming Labor MP Anne Aly thought that her “Diversity was better than others.” 

These statements were made after Aly disputed Hawke’s claims that many of the politicians in the room had heritage from outside Australia as an argument for the success of Australia's multiculturalism. 

Lid Put on Queensland Water Bore Drilling

The Queensland government is putting a lid on mountain water under the Palaszczuk Government plan, stating no new groundwater bores can be sunk on Mount Tamborine and Springbrook for at least a year except for farmers and households.

Natural Resources Minister Doctor Anthony Lynham announced a 12-month moratorium while expert investigations continue into the Gold Coast hinterland's groundwater resources.
