New safety body for QLD resource workers
A new independent safety body for Queensland resource workers would be established under a bill introduced to State Parliament.
Minister for Natural Resources, Mines and Energy Anthony Lynham introduced the Resources Health and Safety Bill to Parliament on Wednesday, following six Queensland mining and quarrying deaths in the past year.
The bill would create Resources Safety and Health Queensland, an independent body overseeing resource industry workers.

WA diver shoots great white shark with speargun to fend it off
A WA fisherman has described the moment he had to fend off a suspected white shark while diving off the Burns Beach coast on Saturday morning.
Joe Petrovich was diving from a boat about two kilometres offshore at 9.30am when he spotted the 4.5-metre shark circling him.
The avid fisherman said he managed to spear the shark in the face to get away but it came back for a second time and took a chunk out of his flipper.

New powers introduced following the Christchurch terror attack are being used by Australian esafety authorities to remove violent material from the internet, including live-streamed murders.
eSafety Commissioner Julie Inman Grant said her office had received 413 reports of "horrific" content appearing online since the legislation came into effect in April.
This morning it was reported that footage of the Christchurch attack is still available online nearly six months after the tragedy.
Afghan peace deal: Taliban says US has most to lose from cancelled talks
The Taliban says Americans have the most to lose from cancelling peace negotiations that sought to end the 18-year war in Afghanistan.
In a statement, the group claimed all was going well until the last moment.
US President Donald Trump fired off a series of tweets on Saturday night, calling off the secret meeting at his Camp David retreat the following day.
He said his decision came after the Taliban admitted being behind a recent attack that killed a US soldier.
Emmanuel Macron says sorry to Albania after wrong anthem played at soccer game
Albania's prime minister says French President Emmanuel Macron has apologised to him after the wrong national anthem was played ahead of a European Championship qualifier between the two countries on Saturday.
Edi Rama tweeted on Sunday that Macron expressed "his sincere apology for the scandalous gaffe of the French Football Federation with our National Flag anthem!"
France won the Group H game in Paris 4-1.

Hong Kong protesters ask US President Donald Trump to 'liberate' Chinese territory as clashes erupt
Thousands of protesters in Hong Kong have urged US President Donald Trump to "liberate" the semi autonomous Chinese territory during a peaceful march to the US Consulate, but violence broke out later in the business and retail district after protesters vandalized subway stations, set fires and blocked traffic.
Demonstrators flooded a park in central Hong Kong on Sunday, chanting "resist Beijing, liberate Hong Kong" and "stand with Hong Kong, fight for freedom".
Australian Government Expresses Concern over Ukraine Russia Prisoner Exchange
The Australian Government has expressed concern over a diplomatic deal between Ukraine and Russia, that has freed one of the key suspects in the downing of Malaysian Airlines flight MH17.
Australian Foreign Minister, Marise Payne took issue with a prisoner swap that occurred over the weekend between the two countries, which saw the suspect who was facing questioning in Ukraine being repatriated to Russia.
