An expert from Dutch open internet foundation GDI has discovered an unprotected Chinese database of young womens’ personal information, including identity numbers and marital status, titled “BreedReady”.

Cyber expert Victor Gevers has informed the New York Times the website which indexed women aged 15 to 95 has been taken down.

While the name is speculated to be either a translation of women who are at “child-bearing” age, others speculate the website, which also contains links to the womens’ Facebook pages, indexes women who “have children”.a

Up to 800 Chemist Warehouse workers have gone on an indefinite strike over what they claim is a widespread culture of sexual harassment and labour exploitation.

Workers are demanding higher wages as the National Union of Workers say both permanent and casual staff earn approximately 25 per cent below the industry standard.

Nike’s senior apparel manager Cassie Looker says, “the graphic mixes the awesome 90s-inspired graffiti you see on Hosier Lane and the Golden Wattle to create this print.”

Lawn bowls club veterans are teaching teenagers to play the sport

In local news, lawn bowls club veterans are teaching teenagers to play the sport in hope of keeping the game and their club alive.

Jindalee Bowls Club hopes to run 68 sessions by the end of March, with students in year 10 and 11 at Ambrose Treacy College and Centenary State High School participating.

Organiser Jan Bell says “the aim is to spread the word about bowls, and if the kids go home with a positive message, then the parents might come down for a game of barefoot bowls.”

Brexit Vote Defeat

UK Prime Minister Theresa May’s revised Brexit deal has been rejected in a vote by the house of commons, where it lost by 149 votes.

The Prime Minister spoke immediately after the vote, saying she regretted the vote the house had taken, and “the deal [her party] has negotiated is the best, and indeed only [Brexit] deal available”.

The house will decide tomorrow whether it supports leaving the European Union without a deal on the 29th of March, which it is widely expected not to.

 

South-East QLD Heatwave Reaches Breaking Temperatures

South-east Queensland towns are reaching record breaking temperatures throughout the warmest March week on record.

The Ipswich suburb of Amberley reached 41.3 degrees after 3pm yesterday, smashing its previous record for the warmest March day, which was 38.9 degrees in 1965.

The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a severe storm warning for the recording breaking week, with damaging winds, heavy rainfall and flash flooding expected for the central coast and inland areas.

 

Public Transport's Digital Future

Public transport might be getting a digital overhaul following the department of Transport and Mains Road plan to install digital screens into its network.

The screens would show real-time timetables, route delays, and commercial advertising, however, the new service could potentially feature the collection and use of customer data.

A TMR spokesman said the digital network could deliver real-time information to customers.

"It is anticipated that users will have an option to opt in or out of data collecting services."

 

Boeing 737 MAX aircrafts grounded

In the wake of two deadly plane crashes involving the Boeing 737 MAX aircraft in the past five months, Australia’s aviation safety authority has officially banned the use of the plane for flights both in and out of the country.

The safety authority says it’s in the best interests of safety to ground the jets which are currently operated here by Fiji Airways who fly them into Adelaide, Sydney, Brisbane, and Melbourne.

Australian Websites Immortalised in National Library Archive

A National Library of Australia archive of Australian websites from as early as 1996 has been published, as a 20 year effort to protect Australia’s cultural history.

Ms Allison Dellit of the trove service of the National Library explains the website has been collecting pages since the mid 1990s, capturing the primitive designs and information of the time on various Australian websites including the Prime Minister’s website, which was initially John Howard’s, and one of the first ABC News websites.
