Hay From Western Australia transported to Queensland Farmers

Rural Aid has secured 2000 tonnes and over 2000 barrels that will be transferred to Queensland and New South Wales farmers over the month of August as it secures more resources to fight the current drought. 

The Buy a Bale program has moved hundreds of bales of hay to famers in towns such as Broken Hill, Bakers Creek  and Texas.

Rural Aid CEO Charles Alder has outlined the distribution of over 6000 over the past 6 months, however there is much more available from hay donations from everyday Australians. 

12 year old asylum seeker continues hunger strike

A 12-year-old asylum seeker is reaching the two-week mark of his hunger strike in the Nauru Detention Centre.

A spokesperson for the Refugee Action Coalition Ian Rintoul said the boy is only receiving nutrients from intravenous fluids.

The boy has been admitted to the International Health and Medical Services Clinic on the island.

Brisbane teen checkmates 3 players while blindfolded

A blindfolded sixteen year-old challenged his principal and two students to games of chess at the same time - beating all three with just 50 moves.

The Gregory Terrace student directed a peer to move the pieces for him and describe his opponents’ moves.

The student says playing blindfolded is not a matter of intelligence, but rigorous practice in which he imagines the chess board.

New technology to monitor baby turtles

A new antenna being installed on the International Space Station will allow astronauts to monitor turtles hatching from space.

The technology helps scientists track animal behaviour, migration and their local weather conditions.

The tracking system is a collaboration between Yale University and the German and Russian space agencies.

Football Federation Australia chairman to Resign

Football Federation Australia chairman Steven Lowy will reportedly resign later this year due to political infighting at the organisation.

The FFA has recently come head-to-head with the A-League as club owners seek more power in the organisation.

Mr Lowy and his billionaire father Frank Lowy have been heavily involved with Australian football for over 50 years.
