Sampology: Regrowth Rearranged

- Brisbane’s Sampology (of Middle Name Dance Band) has just released Regrowth Rearranged, a kind of remix EP via his own label Middle Name Records. This naturally follows from last year’s stellar album Regrowth, a work that taps into many styles of music from dance, to hip-hop and jazz-funk.

Fontaines D.C: Skinty Fia

- I missed the train with Fontaines D.C the first two times they came around so when I saw this record on the schedule, I made sure I was ready…or at the very least, I thought I was ready. Skinty Fia, or “damnation of the deer” has me stumped. Like, I knew the record would be good but I wasn’t expecting it to be this good. Coming two years on from A Hero’s Death, the Irish band are on a track of dour exploration, like a train ride through a grey morning.

Hatchie: Giving The World Away

- There is a truism that lightning cannot strike twice in the same place, even more impossible would be for lightning to strike thrice in that same spot. The natural world, however, doesn’t obey truisms, which are often anything but true. The record industry, however, is very keen to adhere to truisms, particularly with artists releasing their second or third offerings after gaining critical or public acclaim with their initial releases.

The Lazy Eyes: SongBook

- Come with me on a brief sojourn to the land of The Lazy Eyes. SongBook lures us straight into their funky, psychedelic world, offering up the aptly named Intro. It becomes abundantly clear from the get-go whose musical merry-go-round we’re about to embark on.
