Capricornia Correctional Facility protest brought under control
A protest by prisoners at the Capricornia Correctional Facility has ended today, with Queensland Corrective Services Staff confirming that the prisoners in question are now off the roof and back in their cells.
The protest which started on Thursday morning saw prisoners take to the roof of the correctional facility. It’s unclear what sparked this protest at this stage, but The Together Union, which represents prison guards, has raised issues about overcrowding at the facility
Syria executes 24 people for starting devastating fires
Syria has executed 24 people for deliberately starting devastating forest fires that destroyed leader Bashar al-Assad's ancestral home of Latakia.
The huge fires burned for nearly a year and caused tens of millions of dollars of losses in cultivated plots of mainly citrus, apples and olive trees across the coastal provinces.
Those executed on Wednesday were charged with committing "terrorist acts that led to death and damage to state infrastructure, public and private property," the ministry said. 11 others were sentenced to life in prison on the same charge.
South Korea launches first domestically manufactured rocket
South Korea successfully launched its first domestically manufactured rocket yesterday.
The rocket was launched from the Naro Space center in Goheung and successfully reached its target altitude but failed to deliver it’s 1500kg dummy payload into orbit
The payload is expected to crash land somewhere south of Australia, but officials are yet to say when that will happen.
Another South Korean space mission is expected to take place in May next year.

Investigation launched after Mackay Base Hospital incidents
A Queensland mother who nearly died after a hysterectomy is the latest incident in a series of complaints leveled against Mackay Base Hospital
Two days after being discharged from hospital following the keyhole surgery, she was found collapsed on the kitchen floor of a friend's house
The 43-year-old was one of dozens of people to have complained to the hospital after a review was launched last week into its obstetric and gynaecological surgical services.
A doctor has since been suspended pending the outcome of the review.
CCC Watchdog to be terminated after inquiry
A parliamentary inquiry into the Queensland Crime and Corruption Commission's (CCC) fraud investigation into Logan City Council has heard the committee could recommend parliament terminate the head of the watchdog, Alan Macsporran
Submissions to the Parliamentary Crime and Corruption Committee from Jonathan Horton alleged that Mr MacSporran had not ensured the CCC acted impartially, independently, and fairly at all times.
Victorian Lockdown Ends, 2198 new COVID cases recorded
Victoria has ended its lockdown and curfew today as the state records another 2198 cases, and 16 deaths
The restrictions were officially lifted at 12am last night as the state reached its 70% double vaccination milestone
Melbourne's Lord Mayor Sally Capp said it should be a day of joy as the city emerges from what could be its last COVID-related lockdown.
There are still 23,230 active cases of the virus in Victoria, and 203 people have died during the current Delta outbreak.
Queen in good spirits after hospital visit
Buckingham Palace says the Queen is in good spirits after spending a night in hospital earlier in the week.
The hospital visit follows the cancellation of The Queen’s planned trip to Northern Ireland this week, a decision made on the advice of her doctors
