Unlawful force has been used during an arrest in Indigenous community, Doomadgee, suggesting that more cultural training is required of police.
A video of Peter O’Keefe’s arrest last November went viral due to the level of force used. Mr O’Keefe suffered 65 injuries as a result of the arrest.
He was charged with police assault; however, the court dismissed the charges last Thursday

Calls for Brisbane's first party house to get a makeover
One of Brisbane's oldest homes might be up for a facelift.
The 175 year old Newstead House, informally known as “Brisbane’s first party house”, is the city’s oldest European building, heritage listed in 1992.
The house’s long-serving program manager, Jen Garcia, is asking the board of trustees to renovate the property into one which combines history with the modern world, in order to re-establish its relevance.
Vaccination teams to be sent to aged care homes
Vaccination teams will be sent to aged care homes to offer jabs to remaining unvaccinated workers.
Some regional aged care facilities are reporting more than half of their workers are unvaccinated.
Current public health orders require at least one dose of a vaccine.
The federal coronavirus taskforce reports 90.9% of the country's residential aged care workers had received at least one dose, which is up from 50% in August. Some 24,000 workers are still to be jabbed.
Fears grow as Koala population declines
Conservationists are reporting government overestimations of koalas in Australia, a population already in decline.
Australian Koala Foundation’s chief executive, Deborah Tabart says numbers have plummeted to 50,000, 10 times less than what the government is reporting.
WWF estimated over 60,000 koalas were impacted by the bushfires in late 2019, however WWF chief executive Dermot O’Gorman says the species was in decline in Queensland long before.
UK trial aims to detect cancer through a blood test
A UK trial hopes to detect over 50 types of cancer early through just a blood test.
The new National Health Service trial will see one hundred and forty thousand UK volunteers of different backgrounds and ethnicities aged between 50-77, take part.
NHS chief executive Amanda Pritchard says this test could play a major part in the NHS’s goal of catching 75% percent of cancers at an early stage. Ms Pritchard said, “this quick and simple blood test could mark the beginning of a revolution in cancer detection and treatment."

Stafford Skate Centre closes
Continued Covid restrictions have seen an iconic Brisbane establishment close their doors on Saturday night.
Stafford Skate Centre announced in April they would close permanently, on Saturday they closed their doors for the last time.
They cited being forced to turn away many customers due to the pandemic.
Stafford Skate Center has been operating for over 4 decades and was home to Brisbane indoor hockey in the 1990s and 2000s. The iconic location will be set to now operate as a gym.
Esk highway upgrade
A $5.5 million dollar highway upgrade is set to begin for Esk.
Funded under the Australian and Queensland governments’ four hundred and $15 million dollar economic stimulus package, upgrades of this 1km section of the Brisbane Valley highway will improve conditions and reduce maintenance costs.
Minister for Transport, infrastructure and regional development, Barnaby Joyce says he believes the main street upgrade will provide Esk locals and freight workers a safer route along the highway area.
$2million rail line for South East Queensland
Federal Labour says it will deliver a new twenty five kilometre rail line for south east Queensland.
The federal opposition promised $2million to push for a new rail line between Springfield central and Ipswich central.
The population is Australia’s fastest growing region.Labour’s shadow treasurer Jim Chalmers says planning transport is vital with a growing population.
